New Zealand

Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed wouldn’t be too upset about the loss in the last game. They faced one of the most hostile spells in recent memory in this format and lost the game by the third over of their innings with the loss of three wickets in as many balls. Going into the second game the Pakistan vs New Zealand series is at stake for the side and he would want his players to rise up to the occasion and win it. If there is one area that Sarfraz would like to improve upon it would be their bowling in the death overs. It is one thing that cost them the game. With series loss at stake they would like to win the next game and stay alive.

Imam-ul-Haq played well in the last game but his opening partner Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez became Boult’s hat-trick victims. They are the mainstay of the batting along with Shoaib Malik and will need to lay the perfect platform for the likes of Sarfaraz and Imad Wasim. While the Pakistani bowling didn’t fare poorly in the last game they lost the plot in the death overs. Shaheen Afridi bowled extremely well but both Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali were found wanting. They would have to bowl well along with Shadab Khan and Hafeez in the middle overs to contain the Kiwis.

New Zealand

New Zealand’s win in the first game should come as no surprise. They played well in the T20 leg of the series but weren’t able to capitalize on their good performances and ended up on the losing side in all the game. The return of Trent Boult has suddenly made the Kiwi attack threatening and skipper Kane Williamson would use it to his advantage. While the win was comprehensive he would like the middle order to fire in the upcoming game something that pulled down their score in the last one. A series win is on the horizon and Williamson wouldn’t like to let the guard down.

Colin Munro did well in the last game at the top while his partner George Worker failed and the two would like to give the side a great start. The middle order is formidable for the side with Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls all having the range of shots. The return of Trent Boult fired up the bowling attack and with Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson to support him the pace attack looks good. Ish Sodhi didn’t bowl that well in the last game and would look to make the best out of these conditions in the next game. They have the perfect combination to win the upcoming game against the Pakistanis.

There is little that separates the two sides at the moment but given Pakistan’s better understanding of the conditions they would be nose ahead of the New Zealanders going into the second game.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs New Zealand 2nd ODI

Pakistan will win the 2nd ODI

Pakistanis who looked invincible in the T20s in the last couple of weeks suddenly looked a vulnerable side in the 1st ODI. New Zealand quickly exposed this vulnerability and ended their one a half month long winning streak in UAE. However this defeat shouldn’t surprise anyone as the Pakistanis haven’t been in the best of form in ODIs in the last 12 months having won 7 out of 16 games. Kiwis have been competitive in the format over the last couple of years are a much balanced ODI side. The next game at Abu Dhabi can decide the fate of the series and Pakistanis need a win to stay alive. It should be a close encounter between the two sides something crowds would love.
