Pakistan vs New Zealand 1st Test Odds by Bet365 & Betway

New Zealand

Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed would go into this Test Match with full confidence. They have been in good form since their early exit in Asia Cup earlier this year. Since then they have only lost a single game across formats in the last two months. They played splendidly against Australians about a month ago in the same ground and won by a record margin of 373 runs. Also they have won the previous encounter against New Zealand in the same ground in 2014. These are familiar conditions for the Pakistanis and their spinners thrive in such conditions. Pakistani batsmen are putting runs on the board and bowlers are taking wickets when required. If the side plays to the potential they can easily win this game.

Imam-ul-Haq has been in good form and with the in-form veteran Mohammad Hafeez they make a great opening pair. In the middle order Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Babar Azam and skipper Sarfraz performed well against the Australians and they would go into this Test Match with great confidence. They are familiar with these conditions and this will give them the much required edge. In the bowling department Pakistani attack would be threatening for the Kiwis with Mohammad Abbas, Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali with the new ball. Abbas had a great series against the Aussies and with spinners Bilal Asif and Yasir Shah in the side and Hafeez too with his off-breaks they have a well balanced attack.

New Zealand

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson would know that it is never easy against the Pakistanis in such conditions. Their opponents thrive in these conditions and New Zealand’s pace attack may be left with little bargain from the pitch. But given the way his side came back in the ODIs after the shocking whitewash in the T20s he would also be confident going into this game. The key to success would be long partnerships and not letting the Pakistani spinners settle in. Williamson would also expect his spinners to bowl well as they could very well decide the outcome of the game. With two good fast bowlers in his side he would least expect a pace-friendly wicket in the 1st Test Match.

Tom Latham and Jeet Raval make for a good opening pair. Raval who has been performing well is yet to convert his starts into a big score and look to do so in these batting friendly conditions. At No. 3 Kane Williamson will have to play the anchor role for his side and steady the middle order Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling and Colin de Grandhomme. New Zealand bat low with likes of Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi and this will be handy. In terms of their bowling Trent Boult along with Southee will have to pick early wickets. It will however depend on Ish Sodhi and Ajaz Patel who should make his debut in this game to restrict the Pakistani batsmen.

While New Zealand is expected to put up a stiffer challenge compared to what the Australians did, Pakistan without any doubt would start as favourites to win the 1st Test Match.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs New Zealand 1st Test

Pakistan will emerge victorious in the 1st Test Match

New Zealand has completed the coloured clothing leg of their tour of UAE against hosts Pakistan. While they were comprehensively beaten in the T20 series 3-0 they came back strongly in the ODI series which finished 1-1 with the final game being washed away due to rain only the second time for any International game played in UAE in 34 years! Now the two sides are gearing up for 1st Test Match of the three-match series starting at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. New Zealand are ranked 4th in the ICC rankings while Pakistanis find themselves in the 7th spot. But it will be challenge for the Kiwis in these conditions against Pakistani spinners and we should have a keenly fought Test match on our hands.
