Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed would like his team to forget the triumph of the Test series and not take the Australian batting line-up easily. T20 is a different ball game and the struggle that the Aussies have shown in the Tests they aren’t likely to show the same in the 20 over game. Sarfraz would be happy with the composition of the side as they have the right kind of attack to exploit these conditions. The team has been in great form in the T20s in the last 12 months where they have lost just two of their 16 games played so far. With better understanding of the conditions Sarfraz would hope his side gets off to the right start in the 3-Match series.
Pakistan has a strong T20 batting line-up Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez at the top. Zaman who has had a bad Asia Cup would look to make amends while Hafeez is in great form. With the likes of Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik and the skipper himself occupying the middle order they have the arsenal to take on the Aussie bowling attack which looks a little scratchy at the moment. On the bowling side Sarfaraz would rely on Saheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Malik and Faheem Ashraf to contain the run flow from the hard-hitting Australian batting line-up.
For Aussie skipper Aaron Finch it would be the real test of captaincy. Few would have given them the chance to win the Test series but given their batting strength they are expected to do well in the T20 series. The Australians are having an unlikely run in world cricket since the ball tampering controversy and have suffered many defeats in the last few series they have been part of. Taking on Pakistan in these conditions is never easy and he would hope that his spinners deliver the goods after having failed to do so in the Test series. He would hope his side can win this T20 series and leave UAE with shoulder held high before the long home series for the summer begins.
In the batting department Aaron Finch is the mainstay opening the innings and with D Arcy Short as his opening partner would look to give good start to the side. In Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey they have strong middle order who would look to score runs in these batting friendly conditions. The side would hope Maxwell to play with maturity and not throw his wicket. In the bowling Mitchell Starc and Andrew Tye adds to the fast bowling strength while Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa would look forward to gaining maximum out of the pitch conditions.
Pakistanis are the best side in T20 cricket and are playing in familiar conditions. They are up in their moral having defeated the Australians in the Test series and shall start as favourites to win the 1st T20 international.
Our Prediction for Pakistan vs Australia 1st T20
Pakistan is favourites to win the 1st T20i
Pakistan won the Test series in emphatic fashion at Abu Dhabi where they inflicted a 373 run defeat on Australia. It could have very well been 2-0 but for this talismanic innings from Usman Khawaja who stood between a Pakistani win and loss for his side in the 1st Test Match. As the action now moves to the 3-match T20 series it would be a different ball game as both the sides would fancy their chances in coloured clothing as they take on each other in the 1st game at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Pakistan are top-ranked T20 side in the world while Australia aren’t far behind at No. 3 and with both the sides packing great talent it promises to be a good game of cricket.
