ICC World Cup Match 36th Squad Comparison

Pakistan

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side is getting stronger by the day. After their win over South Africa and New Zealand in back to back games the team is suddenly in the reckoning for a spot in the semi-finals of the season. The skipper would be proud of the way in which his side bowled in the last game against New Zealand and chased down the small total clinically. The team has been living up to its unpredictable tag after the horrible start to the tournament. They had lost against Afghanistan in the warm-up game where they couldn’t handle Afghan spinners and Sarfaraz would want his team to get over that.

Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq the opening duo has looked good in this tournament. They have given good starts to the side. Babar Azam is in incredible form at the moment which is good news for the team. Mohammad Hafeez and Haris Sohail have done well in the past few games for the side and this adds to their confidence with the likes of Sarfaraz and Imad Waim being in the finishing act. Mohammad Amir has been troubling the batsmen in this tournament and now Shaheen Afridi supporting him well makes it a good pace attack. Hafeez, Shahdab Khan and Imad Wasim add variety to the attack and shall look to do well in the next game.

Afghanistan

Seven losses in as many game and Gulbadin Naib’s team has looked completely at sea in this tournament. While they nearly pulled off a win against India and competed well against Bangladesh the results haven’t gone in their favor. Now as they take on Pakistan in the next game Naib would want his side to play for their fans who have been supporting them bravely throughout the campaign. The silver lining for the side would be their victory over Pakistan in the warm-up game and he would be hoping for his side to repeat the same performance in the next game.

The opening combination of Gulbadin Naib and Rahmat Shah have been doing well and shall look to give a good start to the side. Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi make up for a strong middle order. Samiullah Shinwari, Ikram Ali Khil and Najibullah Zadran form a good lower order and they would look to do well. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Nabi have bowled well in the last few games and so has Gulbadin Naib. Rashid Khan is yet to make an impact in this tournament and shall look to do well against Pakistan in the next game.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs Afghanistan

Pakistan shall win this game

Pakistan has bounced back strongly after their dismal performance in the initial stages of the World Cup. Having defeated South Africa and New Zealand in back to back games they would be all charged up when they take on neighbours Afghanistan at Headingley, Leeds in their next game. It is a must-win game fort the side. Afghanistan on the other hand has not won a single game so far and would be looking to register their first win and give their fans something to cheer about. Their recent record against Pakistan should make them confident in what is expected to be a close contest.

Pakistan has regained form and is now looking a confident unit and this would make them favourites to win the next game.
