ICC World Cup Match 25 Squad Comparison

New Zealand

New Zealand are unbeaten in the World Cup 2019 so far, winning 3 matches with their last match against India being washed out. They have successfully chased down totals in all their 3 wins. The Black Caps haven’t yet faced a tough contest except for the Bangladesh bowling, where they were 8 wickets down chasing 245.

Their other 2 matches were against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, where the bowlers did a great job of restricting the opposition to below 200 runs. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor in the middle are in good form and can build partnerships to get the side to a big total if they were to bat first. The batting is deep as Mitchell Santner comes in to bat at number 8, and is a calm and patient cricketer, while James Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme at number 6 and 7 can be explosive in the death overs.

Matt Henry and Trent Boult have been successful so far with the ball along with Lockie Ferguson. The New Zealand bowlers have blowed at right line and lengths and can are likely to pick early wickets against South Africa if they continue their form.

South Africa

Proteas have finally registered their 1st win of the tournament after 3 losses. In their last match against Afghanistan, Imran Tahir picked 4 while Morris picked 3 wickets as South Africa wrapped up Afghanistan innings for 125 runs. In their previous matches the bowlers had struggled to pick wickets regularly and ended up conceding 330 runs to Bangladesh.

Bowling is only one of their woes, as their batting wasn’t great either when they finished 227-9 against India and lost the match by 6 wickets. Chasing 312 runs against England, Quinton de Kock (68) and Rassie van der Dussen (50) were the only batsmen with significant scores. The batting has been very inconsistent for South Africa. Though the bowlers must have taken some confidence from their last match against Afghanistan, they will be up against a strong New Zealand batting line-up and will require much disciplined execution of their game plans.

Our Prediction for New Zealand vs South Africa

New Zealand would win this match

Though New Zealand team hasn’t faced a tough competition so far in the tournament, though they will be up against a struggling South African bowling attack. The openers have a job on their hands for New Zealand to attack in the early overs, and get off to a flying start, hit the opposition when they are at their weakest. While South Africa’s inconsistency with both bat and ball makes them unpredictable and we haven’t seen anything special from the Proteas yet.
