ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers Final Comparison

Netherlands

Pieter Seelaar’s side has had a wonderful run in this tournament having won all its games except one. Incidentally, that loss came against Papua New Guinea in the group stages of the tournament. The side put that loss behind and has since enjoyed great victories. In the semi-final game against Ireland, they beat the higher-ranked Irish side by 21 runs and this would have boosted the confidence in the camp. Seelaar would now want his side to avenge the loss they suffered against Papua New Guinea in the group stage and go into the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia as the title winners.

The opening pair of Ben Cooper and Max O’Dowd has had a good tournament so far and they would look to carry the confidence into this game. In the middle order, the side has good firepower with Colin Ackermann, Pieter Seelaar and Ryan ten Doeschate in the side. Roelof van der Merwe and Scott Edwards can hit the ball hard and this will come handy towards the end of the innings. Fred Klassen is doing well with the ball along with Brandon Glover and Timm van der Gugten. Roelof van der Merwe and Seelaar have bowled really well in the middle overs and they would look to do the same in the upcoming game.

Papua New Guinea

Assad Vala’s side has been one of the emerging stories in the tournament. Few betting sites in India had predicted them to come this far in the tournament but the side has but they have played great cricket in the past three weeks. In the semifinal against Namibia, they successfully defended a low total and won the game by 18 runs. The fact that the side has earlier defeated the Netherlands would give them confidence going into this game. Vala would want his players to rise up to the challenge against a stronger opponent and win the game.

The opening pair of Tony Ura and skipper Assad Vala failed in the last game but they have done well in the tournament. They will need to provide the side with a good start. The middle-order comprising of Charles Amini, Lega Siaka and Sese Bau is looking in great form and the side would be hoping for good contributions from them. Norman Vanua and Riley Hekure will need to do well towards the end of the innings. In the bowling department Vanua is in great form and so is Amini. The side would be expecting the new ball pair of Nosaina Pokana and Jason Kila to pick early wickets as the Netherlands have a very strong top order.

Our Prediction for Netherlands vs Papua New Guinea

The Netherlands would win this game

After 50 games of intense cricket that saw several lesser-known players make name for themselves at the world stage, it is the Netherlands vs Papua New Guinea in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Both the sides have played well in the tournament and deserve to be the finals of this competition. While both sides have already made it to Australia they would wish to do so with the bragging rights of winning this competition. There would be pressure on both the sides and we expect a good contest at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

In a high-pressure final, Netherlands by virtue of having established T20 players would start as favorites to win this game and the title
