IPL Final Match Squad Comparison

Mumbai Indians

MI have been in great form lately winning 4 of their last 5 matches. MI played CSK thrice in IPL 2019 so far, and this will be the 4th time these two teams lock horns this season. Mumbai have won on all the three occasions, twice defeating CSK at Chepauk.

The noteworthy thing about MI vs CSK matches is that MI won batting first, defending 155 against Chennai in their 1st match at Chennai this season. This win was followed by another win in the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2019, where MI restricted CSK to 131- 4 in 20 overs and won by 6 wickets. Rahul Chahar was exceptional with the ball picking up 2 for 14 in 4 overs in the qualifier against CSK. While Krunal Pandya finished 1 for 21 in his 4 overs.

While MI’s bowling has been impressive this season, they have a deep batting order with hitters like Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard at number 6 and 7. They have great firepower in their batting order to finish games and Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock at the top can get MI off to a good start.

Chennai Super Kings

CSK have made it to their 8th IPL final defeating Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2. CSK’s loss to MI in Qualifier 1 match was the 3rd loss of this season, after losing to MI at Mumbai and Chennai in the league stage. In the MI vs CSK match at Wankhede CSK were set a target of 171 runs.

MI’s Jason Behrendorff and Lasith Malinga picked the top wickets of CSK dismissing Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina early in the innings. CSK finished 133 for 8, losing by 37 runs. Hardik Pandya and Lasith Malinga picked 3 wickets each, while Behrendorff picked 2. Kedar Jadhav was top scorer for CSK with 58 off 54 balls. Jadhav has the ability to build the innings when CSK lose early wickets, and build partnerships. He has had a good record of batting alongside MS Dhoni, and another good innings in the final will help boost his confidence right before World Cup 2019.

CSK’s batting performance against MI, the second time these two teams met in the league stage was even worse. Chasing 156, CSK had lost Watson, Raina, and Rayudu in 5 overs, and by the time 10th over finished, they were 5 wickets down for 60 runs. CSK innings was wrapped up for 109 and they lost by 46 runs. One thing that is clear from this year’s MI vs CSK matches is CSK’s poor batting form against the Indians. Deepak Chahar bowled well in the Qualifier 2 against DC, and spinners Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir all picked wickets for the side. Dwayne Bravo was also successful in his spell finishing with 2 for 19 in 4 overs. Chennai will need to continue their bowling form, taking some confidence form the recent win. Also, CSK have lost most wickets in power-play in IPL 2019, and that if continues in the final, would mean trouble for the defending champions.

Our Prediction for MI vs CSK

MI are favourites to win this match

MI have dominated CSK completely in IPL 2019 so far, winning 3 out of 3 games. CSK’s top order has struggled lately, and especially in the power-play and against MI, their batting figures this season are the worst. However, CSK is a team that cannot be just counted out. Chennai has some great, wicket-taking bowlers, and batsmen like Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis the top . MS Dhoni, with his unmatched ability to read game conditions almost perfectly, can turn the game around both with the bat, and on the ground behind the wickets.

It will be an exciting game of cricket, and a great farewell to IPL 2019.
