After being the end of a receiving of a cricket score, Southampton will the ruing the fixture list as now face they exactly what they could do without – the Premier League’s top scorers in Manchester City. Ouch.
Considering Southampton’s abysmal performance against Leicester City, you may think we are mad backing the Saints to score. However, on the road, Southampton have not failed to score a goal since the opening day of the season. Not just in the league either but in their two EFL Cup games as well. The Saints are remarkably better on the road than they are at home and there is good value to be had from popular sportsbooks by backing both teams to score.
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Yes, we expect Southampton to score, but we certainly don’t expect them to win and one of the best ways of getting value with online betting sites on the inevitable City win is to back the home side to win both halves. Guardiola’s charges have scored a total of ten goals in their last three games in all competitions (prior to meeting the Saints in the EFL Cup) and have scored four goals in the first half and six in the second making a nice split and enough to suggest City will not hang around in this one.
CITY TO WIN BOTH HALVES
We were quite surprised at the reasonable odds we got for over 3.75 goals in this game and it is a good way to go. We have already mentioned Southampton’s hammering at the hands of Leicester last week, but it is important to note that City are the Premier League’s top scorers this season. Both games between the two last season would also have seen this bet payout and as Southampton have scored in their last four Premier League away games, we think over 3.75 goals is almost a sure thing.
OVER 3.75 GOALS IN THE GAME
Head to Head
Nine appears to be an unlucky number for Southampton at the moment but unfortunately, that number will strike again as that is the number of goals City put past the Saints in the pair two meetings in the Premier League last season. City recorded a thumping 6-1 win on home soil before recording a 3-1 in December on the south coast. Overall, City has claimed 34 wins over the Saints with Southampton winning 31 and a total of 25 draws.
Manchester City to win by three goals or more
We never like to kick someone when their down, but if there’s value to be had we have to take it. The Saints are a seriously wounded animal right now and will be eager to get this double Manchester City header out of the way whilst the likes of Sterling and Aguero will be licking their lips at facing the leaky Saints defence. Unfortunately, they lack the quality to fightback against City and will likely pay a heavy price for a second straight week.
