ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers Match 17 Squad Comparison

Kenya finds itself at number 5 in the Group A points table with 2 losses in 2 matches so far in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019. While Collins Obuya was top batsman for Kenya in their first match against the Netherlands scoring 63 off 40 balls at number 4, his team lost by 30 runs chasing a target of 167. While the openers Alex Obanda and Dhiren Gondaria had failed to give a good start in that chase, wicket-keeper batsman Irfan Karim was promoted from number 9 to open the innings in the next match against Scotland.

Replacing Dhiren Gondaria at number 1, Irfan Karim scored 51 off 46 balls chasing 171 runs. Dhiren Gondaria (26) was the only other batsmen to score over 20 runs in the chase as Kenya finished 139-8 losing by 31 runs. While there hasn’t been much of a spark in the batting department for Kenya, Collins Obuya delivered a good bowling performance against the Netherlands with 2 for 16 in 3 overs. He continued the form in the next match finishing with figures of 2 for 12 in 3 overs against Scotland. While Shem Ngoche picked 1 wicket in both matches, his economy isn’t consistent and he ended up conceding runs at 11 r.p.o in the last match.

Bermuda’s fate has been similar to Kenya losing both the matches they’ve played so far in the tournament and finishing themselves at number 6 in the points table. While Bermuda was all-out for 89 runs batting first against Papua New Guinea, an unbeaten fifty from Janeiro Tucker at number 5 in the next match against Singapore helped the side reach 149-7 batting first.

In addition, there were 15 extras in the Bermuda inning, which definitely helped the scorecard. Deunte Darell, who was top scorer during the warm-up matches for Bermuda was out for 18 at number 6, while only 1 of the top 4 batsmen scored double-digits – Terryn Fray – 29 off 31 balls. While Bermuda bowlers were wicketless defending 89 runs against PNG, they picked 5 wickets against Singapore defending 149 runs. Malachi Jone, Rodney Trott, Janeiro Tucker, George O Brien all picked a wicket each while Kamau Leverock was wicketless.

Our Prediction for Kenya vs Bermuda

Kenya is favorite to win the match

While both teams haven’t secured a win so far in the tournament, Kenya has an upper hand given they’ve got a slightly better all-round attack. Collin Obuya can contribute well with both bat and ball while Irfan Karim and Dhiren Gondaria look in good touch in the top 3. In contrast with Bermuda’s batting line-up, there seems to be a bit more confidence in Kenya and therefore, the top betting sites in India have set Kenya as favorite to win at 1.45 odds.
