Juventus vs Sassuolo: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday, September 16, 2018 @6:30pm
The early top two of Serie A meet with Cristiano Ronaldo still in search of his first Juventus goal and Sassuolo protecting an unbeaten record.
With three appearances under his belt, Cristiano Ronaldo is getting to grips with Italian football after his summer move from Real Madrid, but if his goal drought goes on much longer questions will be asked of the 33-year-old.
But then again, the feeling was that Juve signed the Portugal superstar to make the difference in the Champions League, so even if all of his goals came in Europe, they wouldn’t complain too much if it meant lifting the big-eared trophy in May.
Sassuolo meanwhile have won two and drawn one of their opening three fixtures but coach Roberto De Zerbi still feels there’s room for improvement in the Neroverdi. They’ve already been ambitious Inter and were a goal down in their last outing against Genoa, only to storm into a 5-1 lead.
The two goals conceded from that point might be something of a concern against a Juventus side with considerable firepower, but the fact is Sassuolo have scored eight times to Juve’s seven so far this season. It’s the five goals conceded in three games that’s the issue.
It all points to a high-scoring affair, and Sassuolo will certainly go to Turin without fear. There were indeed goals in the same fixture in 2017-18, seven of them in fact, but they all went to the home side on a difficult afternoon for the Modena side. They’re unlikely to get routed again but Juve should win comfortably, with a score of 3-1 looking likely.
No team in Serie A has scored more times than Sassuolo in the opening three rounds of 2018-19 and no team has the attacking talent of the champions – it’s not just Ronaldo but also Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, Federico Bernadeschi and Douglas Costa. Eventually it will tell.
It’ll be important for Sassuolo to make a good start, to avoid flashbacks to last season’s hammering, and the way they’ve started the season suggests they won’t be reticent. Juve have meanwhile scored in the first half in each of their three games so far this season.

Head to Head
Sassuolo have only beaten Juventus once in the 10 times they’ve met, back in October 2015 when a Nicola Sansone goal delivered a 1-0 victory. Giorgio Chiellini was sent off in the first half, when Sassuolo were already in front.
The only other time Sassuolo have avoided defeat against the Old Lady was in October 2014, when Simone Zaza opened the scoring before Paul Pogba equalised. Juve ended that game with 10 men too, Simone Padoin sent off late on.
- Juve have scored a total of 25 goals in their 10 games against Sassuolo, 16 of them at home and almost half of them in one game.
- Sassuolo, on the other hand, have scored only five times against Juventus, and their only away goal came in a 3-1 defeat in September 2016.
- Both teams tend to score in the first half – Juve’s average first goal time this season is 38 minutes, while for Sassuolo it’s 11 minutes.
- They’ve also both scored in every game they’ve played this season, and both have kept one clean sheet – Juve against Lazio, Sassuolo against Inter.
