Squad Comparison

Ireland

Gary Wilson’s side was upset when their first game against the Netherlands was washed away without a ball being bowled. The skipper would have kept an eye on Scotland’s performance in the last game and would know that his side would be up against a side that has looked in great form. The Irish side has been shaping up well over the last couple of months and has played well in this format of the game. He would hope to see the key players in his squad perform well in the game and defeat the in-form Scotland team.

Openers Kevin O’Brien and Paul Stirling will need to play positively at the start with the latter having the responsibility of holding the innings together. In the middle order the side has good strength with Wilson, Lorcan Tucker, Shane Getkate and Mark Adair all being good hitters of the cricket ball. Stuart Thompson and Gareth Delany will be expected to do well in the finishers’ role. Boyd Rankin and George Dockrell will need to start well with the new ball for the side. Mark Adir Craig Young and Getkate will be looking to make good use of the conditions and bowl a tight line.

Scotland

Kyle Coetzer’s side made a great start to the series in their opening game against Netherlands. They demolished the Dutch side by 58 runs after putting up a huge score on the board. Their batsmen played superbly during the game and even the bowlers were impressive putting the opponents under pressure immediately with the ball. Coetzer would be confident about the prospects of his team as they have played well against the Irish side in the last few seasons. He would want his players to carry on with the same kind of form as they go into the next game.

Scottish openers George Munsey and Kyle Coetzer played brilliantly in the last game setting up a 200 run opening stand. Munsey stood out and made a brilliant hundred remaining unbeaten. In the middle order Michael Leask, Richie Berrington, Ollie Harris, and Calum MacLeod add to the team’s strength as all of them are good hitters of the ball. Alasdair Evans was exceptional with the ball in the last game. Adrain Neill and Safyaan Sharif also bowled well in the last game. With good support from Mark Watt and Berrington their bowling attack has the required depth to trouble the hosts

Our Prediction for Ireland vs Scotland

Scotland would win this game

Ireland will have a big challenge up of their hands when they meet Scotland in the third match of the tri-series. Their first game against Netherlands was washed away by rain and thus they will need to win this one. The Scotts made an impressive start to the tournament in the last game where they overwhelmed the Dutch side. Over the last few years the two sides have been involved in several close games and the upcoming game at The Village, Dublin promises to be one where both the sides are expected to fight it out hard.

There is little to choose between the two sides at the moment but Ireland with their better understanding of the conditions shall start favorites here.
