William Porterfield’s side turned it around in the last game. After their lackluster batting performance where most of their main batsmen were out for single digit scores the team did well when it came to their bowling and never allowed Afghanistan to settle keeping up the pressure on them. The victory came after a string of losses in the last few weeks and this would have surely made the skipper proud. With the last game of the season against a top side coming up Porterfield would look to win it and bag the series which will be a big moment for their fans.
Paul Stirling played a great knock in the last game but his partner James McCollum would be looking to do well in the next game after missing out in the first ODI. The middle order barring skipper Porterfield and Kevin O’Brien didn’t do well in the next game. Andrew Balbirnie, Gary Wilson and George Dockrell will need to contribute with the bat in the next game. Their bowlers did a splendid job in the last game especially Mark Adair and Boyd Rankin who ripped apart the Afghanistan batting line-up. With Tim Murtagh and George Dockrell in the attack they will count their chances in the next game.

Afghanistan

Gulbadin Naib would be upset with the performance of his side in the last game. They had the advantage having dismissed the Irish side for a low score but they let off the momentum with a disastrous batting performance. Coming weeks ahead of the World Cup this will worry the side as their batting strength is already being questioned as they take on the best teams in the world. There was some complacency seen in their batting in the last game which Naib would hope his team gets over and wins the next game to draw the series.
Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad will be looking forward to giving the side a good start in the next game after they failed in the series opener. It is their middle order that has to do well as they fell like a pack of cards in the last game. Rahmat Shah, Asghar Afghan, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Mohammad Nabi will need to work towards building partnerships to win this game. They bowled well in the last game especially Dawlat Zardan and Aftab Alam. With Gulbadin Naib and the likes of Mujeeb ur Rahman, Rashid Khan and Nabi in the attack they will be a tough attack for the Irish side to score against.

Our Prediction for Ireland vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI

Afghanistan will win the 2nd ODI
It was a wake-up call for the resurgent Afghanistan side ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup as they lost out against the determinant Irish side in the first game of the 2-match ODI series at Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast. While the bowled well their batting was below par in the game. They will need to tighten all the loose ends and win the next game convincingly. Ireland on the other hand having smelled blood isn’t likely to let the momentum slip out of their hands. All in all it promises to be a great game of cricket that fans on both the sides would enjoy.
Afghanistan isn’t likely to repeat the mistakes of the first game and is likely to win this game and draw the series 1-1.
