Virat Kohli would be exceedingly happy with the way his side played in the 4th game after putting up below-par performances in the previous two ODIs. If any complacency had crept in after the win in the 1st game after two hiccups the team seems to have gone back to being favourites in the ODI series. What would have impressed the Indian skipper most would be the performance of his bowlers in the last game. On a good batting wicket they prevented the West Indians from playing their natural attacking cricket and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Kohli would want his men to go for the final kill in the 5th ODI and win the series comprehensively.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan is not being able to convert his starts to big scores but his partner Rohit Sharma has had two century knocks in the tournament. Kohli had a rare failure in the last game and would be eager to score in the next. Ambati Raydu has almost cemented the No. 4 spot for himself playing quality games. With Dhoni, Jadeja and Khedar Jadav at the end India have the right batting composition. Bowling which was looking out of shape in the first three games finally came good with Jasprit Bumrah and Khaleel Ahmed impressing. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is still struggling while Ravinder Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Khedar will want to bowl the same way like they did in the last game.
Jason Holder is living the worst nightmares again. Just when his side was earning applause from around the world for the kind of competitive spirit they have shown, comes a performance that show the problems the team faces. While this may be dismissed as a one-off bad performance but these things tend to repeat too regularly with the side. Horrible bowling at the death, bad start from the openers and school boyish running in the middle resulted in last games humiliating loss. With the series at stake in the last game Holder would want his side to show commitment and character. Talent is never an issue with West Indian side and most losses are a result of poor temperament.
Openers Chandrapaul Hemraj and Kieran Powell for once have to put up a huge partnership on these batting paradises such as ones they are playing on. Every game they have failed to see off the new ball. In Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer the side has two hard hitting batsmen who are also in great form. Marlon Samuels’ form is something that would worry the side but with Holder and Ashley Nurse in the end they can pile up quick runs. The bowling has let the side down in most games Kemar Roach isn’t in the best of form and isn’t supporting Holder well. Ashley Nurse and Samuels have bowled well in patches and will have to work and make best use of these conditions to win the game for the side.
Indians are looking all set for a win in the last ODI and seal the series 3-1. West Indians on the other have shown good form in two games and will hope to level the series 2-2.
Our Prediction for India vs West Indies
India will win the 5th ODI
The 5-Match ODI series between West Indies and hosts India is going through a roller coaster ride. When it all seemed that the West Indies were riding the momentum and had caused worries in the Indian camp the home side got into the demolishing act and won the 4th ODI by a record margin of 224 runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli didn’t get to a hundred and proved that he is after all a human! With the West Indian having the arsenal to prevent another series defeat away from home and Indians just a game away from another ODI series win in their own backyard the fifth and final game at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram promises to be exciting. This would be the first ODI for this newly built stadium.
