Our Prediction for India vs West Indies 2nd Test
India shall win the 2nd Test Match
There is only one word to define the performance of the West Indian side in the 1st Test Match at Rajkot – ‘shattering’. Their innings and 272 side loss to the Indian side is the second worst in their history. The fact that they couldn’t last even 100 overs in two innings on a batting friendly wicket narrates the kind of slump that West Indian cricket is going through at the moment. Hosts India the #1 ranked side in Test Cricket on the other hand left behind the sad memories of their English tour and started the short home season in style. As we move to the 2nd Test Match at Hyderabad the visitors would have to play out of their skins to challenge the formidable Indian side or else we would see then again surrendering to India’s spin web once again.
If India skipper Virat Kohli were to pick up a problem in the 1st Test it would be KL Rahul’s early wicket in the first innings in the first over of the game. Rest of the game fell into the perfect script for the hosts. Batting first they put up a mammoth 649 runs on the board and dismissed the West Indian side in little over a day’s play. Apart from Rahul everyone was among the runs in the game and the spinners did what was expected of them. The 2nd Test would be the last one before the tough tour of Australia and Kohli would hope the side doesn’t’ take the opponents lightly and handle their task in a professional manner.
The batting line-up looks very strong in these conditions. The 18 year of wonder teen Prithvi Shaw announced himself to the world with a debut hundred and Man of the Match trophy. KL Rahul failed but will look to put up a better show on the next game. Kohli scored another hundred while Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane scored valuable runs. Ravindra Jadeja’s maiden hundred was a treat to watch as it game batting with the tail. In the bowling department Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav did their job well with the new ball and as expected the spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja look too good for the visitors to handle. They would look to continue with the same momentum in the next game.
In absence of regular skipper Jason Holder the visitors only had woes to count in the first test match. Along with Kemar Roch’s absence the already weak side looked no match for the Indians. Stand-in skipper Kraigg Brathwaite who had bad game with the bat looked clueless with his captaincy as well. With Roch back in the side after attending a family bereavement the West Indian team will gain in strength. While there is confusion with respect to Holder’s injury if he makes it to the side it would be a huge morale booster for the squad. The side lacks experience playing in these conditions but with only one Test Match to go in the series they have to back themselves and not offer Indians a free ride in the park.
Batting failed terribly for the side in the 1st Test and Brathwaite failed on both occasions. Kieran Powell looked good in the second innings and the side would hope he continues with the form. Shai Hope’s batting has raised some concerns as any team would expect more from a No. 3. Shimron Hetmyer and Sunil Ambris would also need to justify their selection in the upcoming game. Roston Chase and wicket keeper Shane Dowrich showed some resistance with the bat and would look to repeat it in the next game. In terms of bowling it was a bad outing for the side with Devendra Bishoo being the only bowler who looked to put up a challenge to the Indians. Shannon Gabriel impressed in his opening spell but would need to restrict the flow of runs. Kemar Roch’s comeback would strengthen their bowling and if Holder makes it Indians can’t expect to take apart the bowling with ease.
Stats, form and history are against West Indies team in the 2nd Test Match and Indians are in comfortable position to seal the series 2-0
