Our Prediction India vs West Indies 1st Test
India will win the 1st Test Match
After their humiliation in England in the Test Series and win in the Asia Cup Team India would start their final leg of the home season this year taking on West Indies in the first of the Two Test Match Series at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. The Virat Kohli led side has had incredible run of form at home over the last two years. They have won 11 of their 16 Test Matches at home and lost only once. West Indies on the other hand have had a poor record in the sub-continent in the last five years and winning only one out of their seven games played during this period. Indians won’t like to take things lightly as they would like to get their Test squad in the right frame of mind before the Australian tour and this shall be a good test for the young West Indian side.
Virat Kohli is back as captain recovering from the back injury which will give lot of confidence to the side. Shikhar Dhawan who has a horrible tour of England wasn’t able to retain his place in the side despite his heroics in the Asia Cup. Mayank Agarwal earned his test call up and the young Prithvi Shaw may make his debut. The skipper would take heart from the fact that West Indies have never won a Test Match in India since the dawn of the millennium and have arrived in India with a relatively weak squad which is struggling to find its foot in a format that they overwhelmingly dominated for more than two decades in the 70s and 80s. It would be a nice time to try around few tricks before they embark on a journey Down Under.
India have a formidable batting line up and KL Rahul would hope to continue with the last innings he played in England and hope to give a good start with Prithvi Shaw. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane make a formidable middle order. Hanuma Vihari and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant would look to make the most out of their opportunity. In the bowling department Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami would look to trouble the visitors with the new ball while the pair of Ravindra Jadega and Ravichandran Ashwin would cast the perfect web around the visitors who are susceptible against spin bowling.
West Indian skipper Jason Holder would have realised the limitations of his bowling attack in the practice game against Board President’s XI. In what may serve as precursor to the Test series most of the bowlers failed to impress and allowed the opponents to score heavily. But he would have been impressed with the way his side handled the bowlers and made most out of the batting opportunity they got in the game. There are already talks that this is the weakest Test side to have come to India and while his side has good players there is nobody yet in the world-class category. How they hold up against the formidable Indian side would test the characters of young players in the side.
Talking about batting Kraigg Brathwaite and Keemo Paul looked well in control of the situation and Shai Hope also played a good hand at No. 3. While Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase failed to impress wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich looked decent with the bat. Sunil Ambris has surely made his claims to be in the playing XI with a classy century. In the bowling department the Jomel Warrican has looked good and Kraigg Brathwaite was able to get his rhythm and the skipper would depend on these two. Devendra Bishoo also picked up three wickets and would have to do bulk of the bowling in the Test match and needs to live up to his skipper’s expectations in the game.
West Indies team has been struggling in Test cricket for a while and India have been in great form at home in the longest format of the game. Team India would start as favourites to win this Test Match.
