India 0 – 2 United Emirates
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) face giantkillers, India, 4-1 conquerors of Thailand in their first match, in front of their adoring home crowd in Abu Dhabi.
The sleeping giant of Asian soccer has awoken with India putting on a clinic to put a well-credentialed Thai side to-the-sword in their first match of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. It was India’s first win in the competition since 1964, and their biggest ever at the Asian Cup. Unsurprisingly, Indian goal-scoring wizard, Sunil Chhetri put on a clinic and tortured the Thais all night.
For their part, the UAE seemed a little cagey and nervous in their opening match, a 1-1 draw with neighbouring Bahrain, and possibly let their expectations get the better of them. That said, as hosts, UAE are expected to put on a show for their fans. They are the overwhelming favourites to top group A comfortably and may potentially have an outside shot at going all the way to the Asian Cup final. Under veteran coach Alberto Zaccheroni they are well-drilled and don’t concede many goals.
Despite the home crowd support and the UAE having the firepower to brush past them, we expect the Indians to hold the UAE, and even score a goal of their own.
This heavyweight clash has all the makings of a very even match that will end 1-1.
1 x 2 Odds

- The goal the UAE conceded to Bahrain was their first goal conceded for over 260 minutes, since they last conceded in a 2-0 loss to South American heavyweights, Venezuela.
- UAE are FIFA world-ranked 79, Asia’s 8th-ranked team.
