India vs Pakistan Sept 19th – Highlights & Summary
Both India and Pakistan had won their 1st group stage match against Hong Kong. Pakistan’s win over Hong Kong was clinical, while India seemed to struggle against the Hong Kong bowlers in the death overs and also against the Hong Kong opening pair of Anshuman Rath and Nizakat Khan.
This made many cricket pundits think that Pakistan had an edge over India and would make India struggle in the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2018 fixture.
Indian bowlers have always been a class apart when it comes to the big stage and they proved it again on 19th September against the Pakistani batting line up.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman opened the innings for Pakistan.
In the 3rd over, Imam-ul-Haq came charging down the crease and Bhuvneshwar Kumar pitched it short of length with a tight line, and Imam-ul-Haq edged it to Dhoni.
Pakistan lost their 1st wicket for 2 and after the 3 overs, Pakistan were 3-1.
The next over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a maiden, and kept the pressure on Pakistan increasing.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was back in the 5th over, and on the 1st ball, Fakhar Zaman, pulled a short of length delivery from Kumar that was on the stumps, and edged it high only to find Chahal under the ball catching it with his safe hands.
Both the Pakistani openers were back to the pavilion and Pakistan were 4-2 after 5 overs.
Partnership for 3rd wicket
Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik came to the rescue and built a steady partnership for the 3rd wicket. The veteran batsman, and former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik played a steady innings that included 1 four and 1 six along with Babar Azam who hit 6 fours.
The two together scored 82 runs for the 3rd wicket and the partnership ended with Kuldeep Yadav getting the better of Babar Azam in the 22nd over. Babar Azam was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav for 47 off 62 balls and Pakistan were once again in trouble at 85-3.
Pakistan batting collapses – Kedar Jadhav shines
In a surprise to the Pakistan captain who was prepared for the India’s spinning duo of Kuldeep and Chahal, a third spin bowler got his wicket. Soon as Sarfaraz Ahmed stepped on to the crease, a few overs later, Kedar Jadhav dismissed him caught by the sub fielder Manish Pandey for just 6 runs.
Kedar Jadhav didn’t stop there and went on to dismiss the next two Pakistani batsmen quickly. Asif Ali (9), and Shadab Khan (8) were dismissed soon after Shoaib Malik was run out in the 27th over.
Malik scored 43 off 67 balls and was dismissed when Pakistan had just 100 runs on the board.
Jadhav’s 2 scalps of Asif Ali and Shadab Khan saw Pakistan 7 down for 121 and it was a point of no return for Pakistan from there.
