Squad Comparison

India

Rohit Sharma surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of most T20Is for India as he played his 99th T20I. In addition to becoming the Indian player with most T20Is to his name, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to lose a T20I against Bangladesh. After the skipper was adjudged LBW in the 1st over, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan together hit 3 fours in the next 5 overs of the power-play. The Bangladeshi spinners made good use of the slow pitch at Delhi to dismiss KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

While Dhawan was playing aa steady inning without any aggression, Shreyas Iyer on the other end seemed impatient. After having hit Aminul Islam for a six in the 9th over, he went for the big hit over long-off on a leg-break slower through the air from Aminul Islam in the 11th over. Rishabh Pant played well in the middle building a steady partnership with Dhawan and then taking on the charge himself after Dhawan’s dismissal. While his inning wasn’t a typical Pant-style inning with big hits all over the ground, he showed commitment and stuck around on a tricky, two-paced surface at Delhi. Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar did their job well to finish the innings on a high. Rohit Sharma missed the trick with his bowlers and though Chahal gave India a fighting chance, Khaleel Ahmed spoiled the night with his expensive spell. India will be keen on bouncing back from the disappointing performance at Delhi and fans can expect a quick turn-around at Rajkot.

Bangladesh

Mahmudullah must be proud of the way his team performed in Delhi. Aminul Islam and Afif Hossain were exceptional and caught everyone’s eyes with their spin. They used the surface better than the Indian spinners while the Bangladesh pacers were expensive. Mustafizur Rahman, who led the top team bowler market for Bangladesh bowled just 2 overs for 15 runs without a wicket. Mahmudullah used 8 bowlers including himself to bowl 20 overs to the hosts batting first. Bangladesh got the better of the Indian middle-order as the Indian batsmen lost the game of nerves.

There was more than one wicket in the Indian innings where the batsman tried to hit one over long-off or long-on and found the fielder in the deep. Tight bowling from the spinners had held the Indian batsmen in clutches and when Iyer and Pant were trying to free themselves with a couple of boundaries, they went for the big ones and lost their wickets. An almost perfect plan for this Indian middle-order from in-experienced Bangladesh spinners restricted India to 148-6. While Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar added 46 runs for the 2nd wicket, Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim scored a 50-runs partnership for the 3rd wicket. Bangladesh must draw a great deal of confidence after their win in the 1st T20I. Though, they would need their pacers to do their job well at Rajkot if they wish to continue the momentum and put India under pressure again.

Our Prediction for India vs Bangladesh

India is favorite to win the match

While Bangladesh did outplay India in both the departments, the hosts are still the favorites to win on the top betting sites in India. India has a strong batting order. However, it seemed as if they lacked proper communication in the batting order given the different approaches from the senior and young batsmen. India is a strong team with highly experienced players like Rohit Sharma who is likely to get his players back on track and motivated for the next game.
