ICC World Cup Match 28 Squad Comparison

India

They came in as one of the favorites to win the tournament and Virat Kohli’s side has been clinical so far in their performance. In a high voltage clash against archrivals Pakistan in the last game the side was professional to the core. They batted well to post a big total on the board and when it came to their bowling the side never let the Pakistanis off the hook. Virat would be aware of the fact that Afghanistan isn’t in the best of form at the moment and would like to win the next game without any hiccups. A win in the next game would almost seal their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

KL Rahul settled well in the opener’s role in the last game in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan. His opening partner Rohit Sharma has been brilliant with two hundreds in the tournament. Virat Kohli has looked good so far lending stability to the Indian batting line-up. With Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav in the line-up and MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya to finish things up the side has great strength in its batting line-up. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury is a blow to the Indian bowling but Jasprit Bumrah is in good form and Mohammad Shami is expected to make it to the line-up for the next game. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are doing well and the latter’s return to form adds to the strength. With Pandya in the set-up and Shankar having shown his ability with the ball they have a well-balanced bowling attack.

Afghanistan

It was a poor day at the office for Gulbadin Naib’s side in their last game as they didn’t have a clue on how to bowl to the English batting line-up. With five straight losses they are out of the contention for the semi-finals. The side had come to the tournament riding on lot of hope and promise but they have been sloppy so far. Either their batting has put them down or their bowling has let them down. It is a big stage and pressure can easily be seen on the side. They have only pride to play for as they take on the strong Indian side in the next game and Naib would hope his side puts behind the defeat and put up a good fight in the next game.

Their batting has been inconsistent in the tournament. Gulbadin Naib played well opening the batting in the last game while his opening partner Noor Ali Zadran fell out cheaply. Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Asghar Afghan have got starts in several games but failed to convert them into big scores. Mohammad Nabi hasn’t done well with the bat in this tournament and would be looking to do well in the next game. In the bowling department Rashid Khan their best bowler has been a no-show so far. Dawlat Zardan has also not been able to give the kind of starts the side needs. Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have also failed and they will need to do well as a unit for the side to challenge the Indian batting in the next game.

Our Prediction for India vs Afghanistan

India will win the game

The World Cup campaign for Team India has been good so far and they have never looked in problems in the three games they have played so far. The victory over Pakistan in the last game would have added to their confidence. The story has been a complete contrast for Afghanistan as the side has lost its five games and haven’t been able to challenge their opponents. They are out of the semi-final contention and would be looking to play for pride and their fans. Indian team isn’t likely to make it easy for them in the next game at The Rose Bowl, Southampton and would press for a convincing victory.
