Kabul Zwanan won the toss and elected to field first. Kandahar Knights Innings Asghar Afghan opened the innings for the Kandahar Knights along with Paul Stirling. Paul Stirling continuing his form was out for a duck on the 1st ball of second over. Kandahar Knights lost their 1st wicket for 12 and the betting odds for the Kandahar Knights Fall of 1st Wicket Under 17.5 were set at 1.83 before the match started as we had discussed in our prediction post. Kandahar Knight’s 1st 6 overs score was 62-1. Asghar Afghan and Brendon McCullum put together 64 runs for the 2nd wicket. Fareed Ahmed put an end to a great innings from the Kandahar captain Asghar Afghan who scored 60 off 31 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Asghar Afghan was out caught in the 9th over and McCullum (16) followed in the 11th over getting out caught to a delivery from Zahir Shehzad. After McCullum’s wicket fell Nasir Jamal and Najibullah Zadran tried to steer the Kandahar innings but their 36 runs partnership ended when Fareed Ahmad picked his 2nd wicket dismissing Nasir Jamal out caught. Kabul Zwanan made a good comeback in the middle after Asghar Afghan’s fifty at the top. The score at the fall of 3rd wicket was 90 in the 11th over and when Nasir Jamal was out in the 17th over, Kandahar Knights had 126 runs on the board. In those 6 overs from 10.4 to 16.4 only 36 runs were scored an a wicket lost. Najibullah Zadran was the next man to be out in the 19th over when the team score was 142. Between the fall of 4th wicket and the 5th wicket i.e. from overs 16.4 to overs 18.6 another 16 runs were added to the total. Kabul Zwanan did well to restrict the Kandahar Knights to 152 in 20 overs after a one-man show from the Kandahar captain Asghar Afghan who have fought alone throughout the tournament. Rashid Khan finished 1 for 14 in his 4 overs while Fareed Ahmed picked 2 wickets for 40 in his 4 overs. Wayne Parnell and Zahir Shehzad picked 1 wicket each. Kabul Zwanan Innings Chasing 153 runs in 20 overs, Kabul Zwanan got off to a good start with Luke Ronchi and Hazratullah Zazai opening the innings. Luke Ronchi was out after a quick innings of 31 runs off 14 balls 2 fours and 3 sixes. Kabul Zwanan’s fall of 1st wicket was on 56 runs in the 5th over. Very much like the Kabul bowlers who made a comeback in the middle overs the Kandahar Knights too picked crucial wicket at regular intervals putting the Kabul Zwanan under pressure. Karim Janat dismissed CA Ingram (11)out caught in the 7th over and Waqer Salamkheil got Afsar Zazai (6) out caught by Stirling in the 10th over. After 10 overs, Kabul Zwanan were 82-4 and needed 71 more to win from 10 overs. 2 overs and 15 runs later, another Kabul wicket fell as Younas Ahmadzai was out bowled by Karim Janat and Kabul were 97-5 after 13 overs. Laurie Evans and Shahidullah kept the scoreboard ticking and ensured Kabul Zwanan were on track to reach the target. After reaching 120 in 17 overs, Shahidullah (14) was caught and bowled by Janat and in walked Rashid Khan. While Laurie Evans hit only 1 four and 1 six in his innings, it was Rashid Khan who entertained in the death overs. After 18 overs, Kabul needed 24 to win from 2 overs and Rashid Khan hit 1 four and 3 back to back sixes on the last 3 balls of the over making it 23 runs for the 19th over. With just 1 run to win from 6 balls, Laurie Evans hit the winning runs and Kabul Zwanan won by 4 wickets and 5 balls remaining. Rashid Khan was not out on 27 off 8 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes with Laurie Evans (32). Karim Janat bowled a great spell for Kandahar Knights picking 3 wickets for 14 runs in his 4 overs.
