ICC World Cup Match 19 Squad Comparison

With 2 wins in 3 matches so far England continue to be favourites to win the World Cup 2019 with 2.75 (bet Rs.100 and win Rs.275) odds in the outright market. Their batting has been their core strength before the tournament and continues to be. While they have scored 300 plus in last 3 consecutive matches with top batsmen in form, their bowlers haven’t been done anything special.

They bowled out South Africa in the first match, and Bangladesh in their recent match defending 311 and 386 runs. Against Pakistan, at London, the English bowlers couldn’t control the flow of runs in the Pakistan innings. If West Indies openers are patient in first powerplay, and maintain a steady run rate between 20-30 overs without losing a wicket, they will likely end up with a good total on board against English bowling attack.

The batting line-up remains one of the best in this tournament which is deep and has explosive batsmen through out. The batsmen are in form and with all-rounders chipping in towards the end, England are likely to again cross 300-runs mark. Sheldon Cottrell could pose a challenge to England openers in the powerplay.

West Indies

After losing to Australia, Windies were keen on making a comeback in the next match against South Africa, which unfortunately was abandoned due to rain. Sheldon Cottrell picked 2 early wickets dismissing Amla and Aiden Markram. He had figures of 2 for 18 in 4 overs when the play was interrupted due to rain. Against Australia, he picked 2 for 56, dismissing David Warner and Maxwell.

On a batter friendly track at Southampton, Cottrell and Kemar Roach used the pace and bounce well. Andre Russell also executes the short ball well and has seen success in the tournament. England’s middle order has in-form batsmen and they are skilled in finding gaps and scoring boundaries. The margin of error is very small for the Windies bowlers and they will need to bowl strictly executing bowling plans.

Shai Hope played a good innings in the middle overs, after Windies lost 2 early wickets chasing against Australia. While Windies batted well, they could not finish even with power hitters like Russell, Brathwaite in the lower order. There were quite many poor shot selections at crucial time in the chase that cost Windies the game. Though Windies look good from their recent matches, they will have to put on their A game, executing their gamelans strictly to break through the English batting line-up. An attacking bowling and fielding plan in the 1st power play, if turned successful will get Windies in the game

Our Prediction for England vs West Indies

England would win this match

England are a stronger batting side, while Windies too have a deep batting line-up and stronger than many teams in the tournament. Given the batting friendly pitch, England are likely to score heavily if they survive the early overs with the new ball. While Windies might not be successful in chasing anything above 320, though if they bat first, they have a good chance of putting a good total on board.

Toss will play a crucial role and the contest will be a close one between the two teams.
