World Cup Match 1 Squad Comparison

Eoin Morgan has been leading the English side quite well recently, winning matches at home and away. Most importantly, their performance at home, where the World Cup 2019 is being played has been top notch.

The two wicket-keeper batsmen in the team, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are both in the form of their life. The two have played some really good innings against Pakistan in the ODI series here at England. Jason Roy, the opening batsman, too has been consistent with the bat.

England squad has a perfect balance of 3 batting all-rounders and 3 bowling all-rounders. Given how the English pitches have turned out in the recent matches, and the English summer, one batting all-rounder and 2 bowling all-rounder can be a good combination. England will need to up their bowling options and performance alike. South Africa, with Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi has a stronger bowling attack. England can either choose to include more batsmen and batting all-rounders in the side to counter this bowling attack, and trust their bowlers to do a par job restricting South Africa to below 350 runs.

South Africa

South Africa looks pretty solid in the bowling department with two of their bowlers, viz., Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada ranking 1 and 2 in the recently concluded IPL 2019 in the race for Most Wickets. Dale Steyn is another force in this bowling attack to reckon with.

Steyn could be a double edged sword for South Africa with his pace. If he bowls in the right areas, he is very likely to give his side breakthroughs, or he could be taken for runs using his pace. Rabada and Ngidi have shown how disciplined they can be with their bowling. The youngsters also have a big heart to go for a bouncer or a wicket ball after being hit for a six.

When the South African side walks on the field, they are likely to put on a great performance in the field with fielders like Faf du Plessis, David Miller. Aiden Markam and Rassie van de Dussen have been included in the South Africa squad for Cricket World Cup 2019. Markram has had his days where he’s played long innings giving his side a solid start at the top. He’s also quite new and inexperienced at the world stage and will be a challenge for him and Rassie van der Dussen to compete against the best of the World. There’s 1 batting all-rounder, Jean-Paul Duminy who’s also quite experienced and can cement the innings in the middle. A lot will depend on Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, and David Miller in the batting department.

Update – Dale Steyn will not be playing for SA in this opening game of World Cup 2019.

Our Prediction for England vs South Africa

England are favourites to win this match

While South Africa has a solid bowling attack, England carry much heavier batting firepower in their squad. England are likely to rely on their batting prowess to get them on the winning side. When compared, English batting is much deeper, stronger and reliable when it comes to high scoring games than this South African side.
