India tour of England 2018 Highlights PreviewIndia’s tour of England 2018 started with India winning the 3-match T20I series 2-1. Following that, India lost the ODI series to England 1-2. The 5 match Test series started with India playing England at Edgbaston in the 1st Test from August 01 to August 05.

England vs India – 1st Test

England 1st Innings

England won the toss and chose to bat first. Alastair Cook was dismissed early in the innings by R Ashwin and England were 26-1.

Joe Root and Keaton Jennings put together 72 runs for the 2nd wicket before Jennings was bowled out by Mohammad Shami for 42 runs.

Dawid Malan was quick to go and scored just 8 runs. Following his wicket, Jonny Bairstow came to the crease and built a solid 104 runs partnership for the 4th wicket batting with Joe Root.

Joe Root was run out for 80 and Baristow followed him back to the pavilion soon after when he was bowled by Umesh Yadav for 70 runs.

England were all out for 287 in their 1st innings.

R Ashwin picke 4-64 for India along with Mohammad Shami who picked 3-64.

India 1st Innings

Indian innings hinged on only one man, that was the captain Virat Kohli who scored a fine knock of 149 runs to keep India in the race. Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan scored 20 and 26 runs respectively.

Hardik Pandya was another batsman who crossed the 20 runs mark scoring 22.

India was all out for 274.

Sam Curran caused the damage to the Indian innings dismissing 4 for 74. James Anderson, Adil Rashid and Ben Stoked picked 2 wickets each.

England 2nd Innings

England’s 2nd innings didn’t get off to a good start and lost wickets early. After Cook and Jennings were dismissed for 0 and 8, the middle order collapsed and England at one point were 87-7.

Sam Curran was the top scorer for England with 63 runs in 65 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Ishant Sharma picked a 5-wicket haul, and R Ashwin picked 3-59 restricting England to 180 runs.

England scored 180 all out in their 2nd innings and set a target of 194 runs for India.

India 2nd Innings

A seemingly low total turned out to be quite some challenge for the Indian batsmen.

The openers were disappointing and once again it was Virat Kohli who was the top scorer with 51 runs.

Hardik Pandya scored 31 runs lower down the order fighting to keep India in the chase and was the last man to get out.

India were all out for 162 and lost the 1st Test to England by 31 runs.

Ben Stokes picked 4-40, Broad and Anderson picked 2 wickets each for England.

Sam Curran and Adil Rashid picked a wicket each.

Sam Curran was awarded Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

England won the toss and chose to field first.

India 1st Innings

Indian batsmen continued their disappointing batting in the second Test at Lord’s and were dismissed for 107 in their 1st innings.

Virat Kohli and R Ashwin were the top scorers for India with 23 and 29 runs respectively.

Shikhar Dhawan was replaced by Lokesh Rahul for this Test. L Rahul was out for 8 runs.

James Anderson picked 5-20 which shattered the Indian batting along with Chris Woakes (2-19). Broad and Sam Curran picket 1 wicket each.

England 1st Innings

Indian bowlers did a good job of picking quick wickets and had England 89-4 at one stage.

After England lost the 5th wicket at 131, Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes added 189 runs for the 6th wicket and things were completely different.

Baristow sacred 93 runs and Chris Woakes remained not out for 137.

Sam Curran scored 40 runs batting at number 6.

England declared the innings at 396-7.

Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya were the top wicket takers for India picking 3 wickets each.

India 2nd Innings

India’s 2nd innings wasn’t any different from their 1st innings. R Ashwin was the top run scorer who remained not out for 33.

India was all out for 130 runs.

Anderson and Broad picked 4 wickets each. Chris Woakes picked 2 wickets.

England won the Test by an innings and 159 runs. Chris Woakes was the Man of the Match.

England vs India 3rd Test

England won the toss and chose to field first.

India 1st Innings

Virat Kohli (97) and Ajinkya Rahane (81) brought India back into the series with some fine innings.

India scored 329 all out in their 1st innings.

Anderson, Broad and Chris Woakes picked 3 wickets each.

England 1st Innings

England’s 1st innings collapsed with no big innings from any of their top or middle order batsmen. Jos Buttler was the top scorer with 39 runs.

England were all out for 161 and that put India in the front seat.

Hardik Pandya picked 5-28 which hurt England a lot. Bumrah and Ishant Sharma picked 2 wickets each for India.

India 2nd Innings

Indian batsmen continued their fine batting in the 2nd innings with Virat Kohli reaching his hundred this time and scoring 103 runs. Hardik Pandya was not out for 52.

India declared the innings on 352-7.

Adil Rashid picked 3 for 101 and Ben Stokes picked 2 wickets for 68.

England 2nd Innings

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler were the only batsmen in England’s chase to put up a fight and scored 62 and 106 runs respectively.

Adil Rashid remained not out on 33 runs, apart from that no batsman in the top order crossed 20 runs.

England were all out for 317 runs.

India won the match by 203 runs and made a comeback in the series.

Bumrah picked 5-85 with Ishant Sharma who picked 2 wickets for 70.

Virat Kohli was awarded Man of the Match.

India had won their 1st Test in the series and the series equation was England 2 – 1 India.

England vs India 4th Test

England won the toss and chose to bat first

England 1st Innings

England’s top batting order fell quickly and they were 69-5 after Js Buttler was dismissed for 21 by Mohammad Shami.

Sam Curran once again batting lower down the order came to the rescue and scored 78 runs. Moeen Ali supported the England innings with his 40 runs.

England was all out for 246.

Jasprit Bumrah picked 3 wickets for 46 runs. Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami and R Ashwin picked 2 wickets each.

India 1st Innings

C Pujara scored a hundred for India and his 132 runs along with Virat Kohli’s 46 took the Indian innings to 273.

There were no other notable performances by any other Indian batsman, and India were all out for 273.

Stuart Broad picked 3 for 63. Moeen Ali picked 5 wickets for 63 and were crucial in dismantling the Indian batting order.

England 2nd Innings

Jos Buttler was the only batsman to score a half century for England in the second innings and was dismissed lbw by Ishant Sharma for 69. Joe Root was run out for 48, and Sam Curran (46) too was dismissed run out.

England were all out for 271.

Mohammad Shami was the highest wicket taker with 4 wickets for 57 runs. Ishant Sharma picked 2 for 36.

India 2nd Innings

Chasing a target of 245 runs India lost 3 wickets for 22 runs in just 8.3 overs.

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane brought the Indian innings back in the race both scoring half centuries.

Moeen Ali dismissed Kohli (58) and Ajinkya Rahane (51) and India were again on the back foot.

India were all out for 184 runs and lost the Test by 60 runs.

Moeen Ali picked 4 wickets for 71 runs. Ben Stokes and Anderson picked 2 wickets each.

Moeen Ali was the Man of the Match.

England moved up in the series 3-1 after winning the 4th Test at The Rose Bowl.

England vs India 5th Test

England won the toss and chose to bat first.

England 1st Innings

In the last Test of his career, Alastair Cook put up a great show for all his fans in the stadium and around the world.

He scored 71 runs in the 1st innings. Moeen Ali batting at number 3 scored 50 runs from 170 balls.

Another notable performance was by Jos Buttler who score 89 runs at number 7.

England were all out for 332 runs.

R Jadeja picked 4 wickets for 79. Bumrah and Ishant Sharma picked 3 wickets each.

India 1st Innings

L Rahul and C Pujara sacred 37 runs each at the top. Virat Kohli was dismissed for 49 by Stokes.

Hanuma Vihari on his debut Test, scored 56 runs. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86.

India were all out for 292.

Anderson, Broad and Moeen Ali picked 2 wickets each.

England 2nd Innings

England’s 2nd innings saw two centurions. Alastair Cook scored147 in the last innings of his Test career. Joe Root batting at number 4 scored 125 runs to take the England innings to a solid position to win the Test.

England declared the innings on 423-8.

Hanuma Vihari and Jadeja picked 3 wickets each. Hanuma Vihari picked big wickets of Alastair Cook and Joe Root on back to back deliveries.

India 2nd Innings

India’s innings too had two centurions but there was no other batsman to support the innings to chase a big total.

Lokesh Rahul sacred 149 runs and was dismissed bowled by Adil Rashid. He was supported by Rishabh Pant who scored his maiden hundred and with 114 runs became the first Indian wicket keeper to score a hundred in England.

Dhawan, Pujara, and Kohli were out for 1, 0, and 0 respectively.

India were all out for 345 and fell far behind the target inspite of the two centuries.

England won the Test by 118 runs.

Anderson was the highest wicket taker with 3-45. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid picked 2 wickets each. Adil Rashid picked the important wicket of KL Rahul who was looking dangerous at the time. Rashid also dismissed the other centurion Rishabh Pant.

Alastair Cook won the Man of the Match award and England won the series 4-1.

Sam Curran and Virat Kohli both won the Man of the Series award.
