4th Ashes Test Match Squad Comparison

There would be odes written about England’s victory in the Headingley Test Match which helped them level the series 1-1. The unbeaten 76 runs 10th wicket stand between Ben Stokes and Jack Leach was the second-highest in the history of the game and the highest successful run chase for England ever. Leach perhaps played one of the best tail ender’s knock in recent memory. Skipper Joe Root was ecstatic with the performance his side put up after being bundled for just 67 runs in the first innings. It was surely one of the best comebacks of all times in the history of the game. Having gained momentum the English side would go into the game with confidence and take an unassailable 2-1 lead.

Openers Rory Burns and Jason Roy disappointed in both the innings and Roy looks in woeful form going into this game. Skipper Jason Roy, Joe Denly played well in the second innings to set up the win. But it was the World Cup hero Ben Stokes who played an innings of a lifetime with the tail to win the game for the side. Going into the game the side would expect better batting effort from Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes in the game. Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad look in great form with the ball and would like to continue with the same form and James Anderson’s return will add to their confidence. Woakes and Ben Stokes would look to play the supporting role as they eye to win the next game.

Tim Paine is leading the Australian side in one of its worst phases in the last three decades. The last game was as much about England playing magnificently as the visitors throwing it away. Having dominated 11 sessions in the game they lost out one session and it made all the difference. The side waited for the last wicket to fall rather than grab it. It was one of the worst bowling performances in the 4th innings by the side and over the last year, the side has lost its killer instinct. The defeat is likely to play in the minds of the players and Paine would have to restore their lost confidence as they go into the next game.

Their batsmen did well without Steven Smith in the side and his return in the fourth game would strengthen the team. David Warner did well in the first innings but his opening partner Marcus Harris looks in bat form. Usman Khwaja is also struggling and may need to make way for Smith in the next game but Marnus Labuschagne did justify his selection in the last game. Travis Head, Mathew Wade and Paine will need to bat well in the next game against the fiery English attack. Josh Hazlewood looked good with the ball in both the innings but the side would need better bowling show from Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Nathan Lyon will have to improve their performance going into the next game.

Our Prediction for England vs Australia

England would win this game

The Ashes 2019 is now well set up with England leveling the series. As the two sides head into Old Trafford, Manchester for the 4th Test Match all eyes would be on how Australia recover from the demoralising defeat they suffered in the last game. Steven Smith’s return to the squad would definitely be a confidence booster for the visitors. But England fresh from their remarkable win in the last game from the jaws of defeat would be looking to go for the kill in the next game. It has been a well contested series so far and we expect to see some great cricket in the 4th game of the series.

England fresh from the impressive win in the last game will go into the next one with confidence and they would start in the driver’s seat.
