Squad Comparison

The rain-affected game at Lord’s ended in a draw and this has now increased pressure on Joe Root’s side going into the third Test Match. While the side would draw confidence from the fact that they dominated most parts of the last game the fact remains that the side can’t afford to lose the next game and bury their chances of winning an Ashes at home after being crowned World Champions. Their batting hasn’t really lived up to the expectations so far in the series and this is something the Root would want to correct going into the next game.

As far as batting goes Rory Burns looks in great form at the top but Jason Roy has disappointed in both the games. He would need to play well in the upcoming game. Joe Root, Joe Denly and Jos Buttler too have failed to convert their starts into big scores and shall need to do that in the upcoming game. With Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow towards the end, the side bats deep and this may be the difference in the game. The bowling attack looks in good form for the side with Jofra Archer having impressed on debut. Stuart Broad has looked at his best. With Chris Woakes, Jack Leach and Ben Stokes in the side they have a good bowling attack going into the 3rd Test Match.

Tim Paine would be happy going into the third Test Match. Having taken the lead in the first game his side did well in the last match to draw it after having batted poorly in the first innings. But that said, batting has looked completely dependent on Steve Smith and with the former skipper ruled out of the next game due to injury the side would have a huge challenge on its hands. Their bowlers have impressed in both the games played so far and would be looking to trouble the hosts in the upcoming game. Paine would be looking to press for a win as this would ensure they retain the Ashes title.

The form of openers Cameron Bancroft and David Warner is a bit of a concern for the side at the moment. They have failed in both the games so far. Usman Khawaja has got starts but failed to capitalize on that. In the absence of Steve Smith, they will have to take more responsibility going into the next game. In the lower middle order Travis Head, Mathew Wade and Tim Paine have scored runs and they would look to do the same in the next game. Aussie bowlers have been on the money with new ball bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood being in good form. Peter Siddle has bowled his heart out. With Nathan Lyon also looking in good form they are likely to trouble the English side in the next game.

Our Prediction for England vs Australia

England would win this game

As The Ashes 2019 enters its third game hosts England is in a spot of bother and one loss away from conceding the title. Though betting sites in India consider them as favourites going into the next game at Headingley, Leeds it isn’t going to be easy against an Australian team that has played hard cricket so far. But the absence of Steve Smith is a huge body blow for the Aussies. The visitors have won the last four out of five Test Matches at this venue which would definitely play in the mind of the English players. Batsmen on both the sides have struggled so far in the series. With the title on the line in the next game, we expect the game to be a good one.

It is hard to pick between the two sides at the moment but England team with a better batting line-up shall start as favourites in this game
