Ashes 2nd Test Match Squad Comparison

England

It would have been hard to be Joe Root after the last Test Match. The English skipper and his side were up against a man who was scripting a dream comeback. Root would have been terribly upset with the performance of his side in the last innings both with the bat and the ball. Having nearly sealed the fate of the game in the first two sessions of Day 1 they threw away the initiative and ended up losing the game by a huge margin. It will be a tough challenge for the English players having conceded territory to the Australians and the skipper would want his team to rise up to the challenge and hold their ground together in the next game.

Rory Burns justified his selection as an opener in the last game but Jason Roy couldn’t live up to the reputation in the last game and the opening pair would be looking to do well in the next game. Joe Root and Ben Stokes did well in the first innings but Joe Denly and Jos Buttler would be looking for a better show in the next game. The side bats deep having Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad in the line-up and they would have to carry on the same form in the next game. Stuart Broad did well with the ball in the first innings an Ali looked in good form in the second. But their bowling efforts in the second innings were below expectations. Jofra Archer making his debut will add strength to their bowling line-up and the side would expect a better show from Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes in the next game.

Australia

Tim Paine couldn’t have thanked Steven Smith enough for the first win at Edgbaston. It was a one-man show from the former skipper which helped the visitors earned one of their best wins in this decade at a venue where they haven’t won a game in nearly two decades. But there were many question marks in the last game that needs to be addressed especially the form of some of their batsmen. Having drawn first blood in the series Paine would want his players to play hard cricket in the next game. The English side would come hard at them in the game and they have to play well.

The side would have worries about the form of their openers Cameron Bancroft and David Warner and would like these two to provide their side with a good start. Usman Khawaja has batted well but it was a Steven Smith show in the last game with Travis Head and Mathew Wade supporting him well in the last game. Tim Paine, James Pattinson, and Pat Cummings add depth to their batting line-up and these guys would have to play well in the next game. It was a good bowling show from Nathan Lyon in the last game and he troubled the English batsmen. Peter Siddle makes a comeback also did well. Pattinson and Cummins also had a good game with the ball and shall look to carry the form into the next game.

Our Prediction for England vs Australia

England would win this game

It was a great start to the 2019 Ashes as the Australians registered one of the most remarkable wins in this format in the recent years. Steven Smith made a strong comeback to defeat the Englishmen in a ground they have held like a fort. The English team suffered from some complacency in the last game as they allowed the Australians to escape from a tight situation they were in on Day 1. Being one down in the series the hosts would look forward to making a strong statement when they take on the spirited Australian side at Lord’s.

Betting sites in India are currently tied as far as the winner odds are concerned as both the sides match up well. England playing at home would be slightly ahead of the Australians going into this game.
