ICC World Cup Match 24 Squad Comparison

England

Eoin Morgan’s side has been clinical so far in the tournament. Apart from the game against Pakistan which they lost narrowly the team has been dominating in every game they are playing. Their win against West Indies would have given the side lot of confidence as they dominated the game right from the start and won it without any hiccups. A win against Afghanistan would put them in a comfortable position in the points table and take them close to the semi-finals of the tournament. Morgan would want to make sure that his boys aren’t complacent and be professional with their approach in the next game.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root gave the side a good start in the last game and would look to do the same in the next one. Jason Roy’s participation in the next game is doubtful. But England has a strong batting line-up with the likes of Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler and Liam Plunkett and they would surely challenge the Afghan bowlers. The English bowling attack has been doing extremely well and Jofra Archer and Mark Wood have been among the top wicket takers in the tournament. Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett have also been bowling well and with Adil Rashid in the side the bowling attack looks very strong.

Afghanistan

Gulbadin Naib’s side finds itself in tatters at the moment. The team came into the tournament full of promises but hasn’t lived up to the expectations. They have nearly lost their chances of going to the semi-finals of the tournament and apart from the game against Sri Lanka they have been outplayed so far. In their last game against Afghanistan they suffered a middle order collapse and lost 5 wickets for mere 8 runs. The same story has been repeating in most of their games. The team needs to play for pride as they take on a strong English side that is expected to come hard at them in the next game.

Hazratullah Zazai has been getting starts but has failed to convert them into big scores. His new opening partner Noor Ali Zadran did well in the last game. In the middle order the likes of Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi aren’t contributing as expected and hurting the cause of the side. Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan have done well with the bat but they would need good starts from the top order in the next game. In the bowling department Aftab Alam and Hamid Hassan have done well. Nabi and Naib have also done well in patches. But the team would expect more from Rashid Khan who hasn’t troubled the bigger teams so far with his bowling

Our Prediction for England vs Afghanistan

England will win the game

Hosts England is looking strong as they head into the next game of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup against Afghanistan at Old Trafford, Manchester. They won their last game comprehensively against West Indies and look all set to earn a place in the semi-final of the tournament. Apart from the loss against Pakistan the team has dominated all the games they have played so far. For Afghanistan the results have been quite the opposite. They haven’t been able to register a single win in their four games played so far and would have to play out of their skins to defeat tournament favourites England in the next game.

The gap between the two sides in terms of form and skill is very wide and England would definitely start as favourites to win this one.
