After 6 consecutive wins Dindigul lost their last league stage match against Lyca Kovai Kings by 35 runs. With R Ashwin sitting out the last game, N Jagadeesan led the Dindigul side with a few changes in the bowling department. While the bowlers did their job well to restrict Kovai Kings to 134, the early dismissal of both Dindigul openers sent a shockwave in the middle order as Dindigul were bowled out for 99 runs. It was a rare occasion to see Dindigul’s batting collapse in such a way. However, the team is strong enough to pull themselves back from the recent loss. Dindigul will have a tough competition from Chepauk as was seen in the opening game of this season. The surface at Tirunelveli is two paced one and the bowlers are likely to make the most out of it.
Chasing at this surface will be challenging for both sides given the bowling attack. Dindigul had defended 115 runs against Chepauk in the first match, and will be confident defending anything above 140 runs. While the batting has improved over this season for both sides, they recently had games where the batting wasn’t impressive. A lot depends on how Hari Nishanth and N Jagadeesan play in the first 6 overs. Sumant Jain, R Ashwin and R Rohit are all good hitters and can build up to a good total if the openers lay a good foundation. R Rohit, M Silambarasan and R Ashwin will be the key bowlers in terms of getting breakthroughs.
After their loss to Dindigul in the opening game of TNP 2019, Chepauk bounced back with 4 back to back wins before losing to Madurai Panthers. In their last game at this venue, Chepauk’s batting failed to impress and continue their batting form as they finished 127-10 batting first. Opener Gopinath was top scorer with 53 off 35 balls. Vijay Shankar, coming back from injury, playing his first TNPL match was out for 3 runs. It was their bowling that won them the match defending such a low total.
While Vijay Shankar failed with the bat, he made up for it picking up 2 for 15 with 1 maiden. Harish Kumar was the top pick with 3 for 4 in 2 overs as the opposition were bowled out for 95. The bowling attack consisting of R Alexander, G Periyaswamy, Murugan Ashwin and M Siddharth looks very strong. Kaushik Gandhi will back his bowlers against Dindigul and would expect the openers to stay longer at the crease. With Vijay Shankar in the side, Chepauk would be confident of their batting line-up, though it may not be easy for Shankar coming back form an injury.
Dindigul Dragons are favourites to win this match
Dindigul Dragons as a team have played better cricket than the rest. The side has many match winners and if a particular batsmen doesn’t work well on a given day, there’s always someone else in to fill in his shoes. This characteristic of Dindigul has won them 6 matches this season and along with their strong bowling attack and R Ashwin as captain makes them favourite to win this match.
Betting odds are likely to shift often during the course of the game as Dindigul vs Chepauk is likely to be a close encounter. When the betting sites switch favourites in the first innings, most of the times it is based on the bowling team’s ability to chase, and the expected total the batting team would put on the board.
