Celtic vs CFR Cluj: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Celtic vs Cluj Europa League
Celtic vs CFR Cluj, Europa League, Celtic Park

Celtic started off their Europa League campaign with a draw in Rennes and will now look to capitalise on that point with a win in their first home fixture against Cluj.

Our Betting Tips

Celtic have started the domestic season in typical all-conquering fashion. But the defeat to Cluj in the Champions League was a wake up call. Now is the time to get some revenge.

Celtic have already posted some big wins in the Scottish Premiership and will look to a typically passionate home crowd to cheer them on to a convincing victory here to serve as a statement to the rest of the group.

The Scottish side will look to take the game to their Romanian opponents straight from the kick off – and it would be no surprise if the home team completely dominate this meeting.

Head to Head

These two sides met for the first time earlier in the season in a third qualifying round in the Champions League. After a 1-1 draw in Romania, Cluj surprised Celtic in the second leg by scoring a last minute winner to win 4-3 and take the tie.

  • Celtic joined the Europa League after exiting the Champions League in the third qualifying round last season as well. They made it through the group stage before being knocked out by Valencia in the round of 32.
  • It is ten years since CFR Cluj were involved in the group stage of the Europa League. But they did manage to get to the same stage in the Champions League in the 2012/13 season when they famously beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.
  • Celtic kicked off their domestic campaign with a 7-0 thrashing of St Johnstone – and have carried on scoring goals ever since. The Bhoys
  • Cluj have won back-to-back Romanian titles and have started this season off in fine form, losing just one of their first ten games in Liga I.

Our Prediction for Team vs Team

Celtic to win at home

This is a perfect test for Neil Lennon’s side to show that they can go far in this season’s Europa League – and make up for previous failures, including the Champions League exit to this Cluj side earlier in the season.
