Squad Comparison

The top-order failed for the second consecutive time in the Tri-Series for Bangladesh as they lost to Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I match. Chasing 165 runs, Bangladesh had lost 4 wickets for 32 runs in 5 overs. Mahmudullah (44) and Sabbir Rahman (24) were the only batsmen to cross 20-runs mark. The top 3 batsmen who’ve got T20 experience playing at home conditions in the BPL have struggled to give Bangladesh a good start in both the matches. In their win against Zimbabwe, 3 of the top 4 batsmen were out for below 5 runs, while Mosaddek Hossain and Afif Hossain were the only batsmen with scores of 20 plus runs.

While the bowlers did well early in the innings to get Afghanistan to 40-4 in 6 overs, things slipped out of hand in the second half. Shakib Al Hasan improved on his 1st match performance and finished with 2 for 18 and a maiden over. While Saifuddin picked 4 for 33, Soumya Sarkar and Mosaddek Hossain together bowled 3 overs for 43 runs. In the previous match against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh had got the visitors to 63-5 in the 10th over. However, Bangladesh bowlers were wicketless for the rest of the overs conceding runs at 8 r.p.o.

Zimbabwe has lost 2 in 2 matches in the Tri-Series so far. After failing to defend 144 against Bangladesh in the 1st match, Zimbabwe lost to Afghanistan chasing 197 in the next match. Both Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have failed in taming the Afghanistan middle-order. While Sean Williams was economical against Afghanistan finishing 2 for 16, Kyle Jarvis and Tendai Chatara were too expensive.

Jarvis was wicketless for 53 runs while Chatara picked 2 for 53 in his 4 overs. There was no special inning from the top 4 Zimbabwe batsmen as skipper Masakadza and Sean Williams were out for 3 and 0. While Regis Chakabva remained unbeaten on 42 off 22 balls, it wasn’t enough as Zimbabwe lost by 28 runs. In the match against Bangladesh, it was Ryan Burl’s unbeaten 57 off 32 balls at number 6 that helped the team reach 144 batting first. Jarvis and Chatara picked 2 each while Madziva finished with 1 for 25. Zimbabwe would be eying to make a comeback against a struggling Bangladesh batting order.

Our Prediction for Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe

Bangladesh are favorites to win this match

While these two teams aren’t in their best form with top-order batsmen not scoring runs for either of them, it is an important game for both sides. Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Saifuddin will be key bowlers for Bangladesh and could prove to be match winners.

The top betting sites in India indicate Bangladesh as clear favorites at 1.25 odds indicating 80% probability of a win. The venue at Chattogram has seen some great performances during BPL. Spinners would play a key role on this surface while the top-order batsmen are likely to get runs on the board.
