Going into the 2nd Test Match with a 1-0 deficit is perhaps the last thing that Bangladeshi skipper Mahmudullah would have expected at the start of the series. The side has challenged the best teams in the home turf and it was a woeful performance with the bat in the first innings that cost them the game at Sylhet. It won’t be wrong to say that his side was complacent and didn’t expect the visitors to do the unthinkable. With a series win out of contention he would hope his side plays to its potential and draws the Test series in the next game. There is a lot at stake in front of the home crowd and the side won’t like to mess it up a second time.
Openers Imrul Kayes and Liton Das would like to keep their average performance in the last game and start afresh in the 2nd game. The absence of Tamim Iqbal was definitely felt in the last game. However it is Mominul Haque, skipper Mahmudullah, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim who have to seal the game during the middle overs and need to work on building partnerships. The bowlers Taijul Islam was the standout performer with the ball and if there is good support from Nazmul Islam and Abu Jayed the side will do well. It is however Mehidy Hasan who needs to live up to the expectations and trouble the visitors with his spin something the Bangladeshis missed out in the low scoring encounter at Sylhet.
Zimbabwean skipper Hamilton Masakadza is on top of the moon. The first Test victory as a skipper came after a long wait and the icing on the cake was perhaps the fact that it came away from home. He has been leading the side with pride and courage even when chips have been down. The victory in the last game would have given his side immense confidence as it came after months of losing across all formats. It was a team performance where every player contributed in their own way with the bat and the ball across the four innings. With a rare series win outside home soil in horizon he wouldn’t like the opportunity slip by his hands.
Opening the batting Masakadza played important knocks in both the games but his partner Brian Chari missed out in both innings and would look to make amends this time. The middle order with Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams and Sikander Raza looks extremely formidable at the moment and it was this trio that took the game away from the Bangladesh. If there is contribution from the lower order they would test the Bangladesh attack in the next game. Bowlers led by Kyle Jarvis and Tendai Chatara didn’t let the home side settle in the first innings while Sikandar Raza and Brandon Mavuta bowled them to victory in the second innings. They would hope to repeat the performance in the next game.
Bangladesh has their back to the wall and would come hard at the Zimbabweans in the next game. Given the stakes involved and Zimbabwe’s recent form the home side are ahead in the race for a win in this game.
Our Prediction for Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 2nd Test
Bangladesh is favourites to win the 2nd Test Match
What a win it for Zimbabwe in the 1st Test Match at Sylhet, their first in five years and also coming after a gap of 17 years on Bangladeshi soil. Few punters would have expected the Zimbabweans to win comprehensively against a Bangladeshi side that has been dominating at home against the best teams in the last few years. It seemed the home side were complacent and now find themselves in a tricky situation where they have to win to draw the series against a side which hasn’t been winning in any format of the game. There is renewed interest in the upcoming game at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka and a confident Zimbabwean side will target only their third Test Series win outside home soil and the first since 2001.
