Bangladesh side has been a story of improvement over the last few years and their performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup is a testimony to this. In home conditions they have proved to be near invincible and have defeated even the best touring sides. Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh’s skipper would know that the side can defeat the visitors by sticking to its basics. The team surely has better talent both in terms of batting and bowling firepower to defeat the Zimbabweans and he would hope that his team doesn’t get complacent and gives away anything to the visitors. Mortaza would look forward for a perfect start to the series.

Tamin Iqbal’s injury and absence is definitely a huge blow to the side but Imrul Kayes made a great comeback to the side during Asia Cup. Liton Das the other opener is also in great form. The team would definitely miss the services of Shakib Al Hasan but in Mehidy Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar and the in-form man Mushfiqur Rahim they have a great batting line-up. And it is the bowling strength that has made the side stands out in the recent years. Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman are great bowling pair opening the bowling. Mehidy Hasan in abases of Shakib would need to lead the spin attack and others like Mahmudullah and Rubel Hossain would strengthen the bowling attack which would be tough for Zimbabwe to handle.

There is little that Hamilton Masakadza can be proud of in terms of the recent performances of his side. For the record the side comes into this series having lost its last 10 games and most of them without putting up much of fight. Their poor batting form despite having few quality players in the side was horribly exposed during the last series in South Africa where comprehensively defeated in all the games. The team hasn’t done well in the sub-continent even in its heydays and this side is no match for the energetic Bangladeshi side that has been impressing over the last few years all around the world.

As far as batting goes skipper Masakadza has been getting starts in the recent games but has failed to convert those into big scores. The bigger worry is his opening partner Solomon Mire who is failing to go beyond single digits. Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams are good players in the middle order but seem to have hit a rough patch together and would have to do better for the side to win. The lower middle order is simply collapsing in every game. On the bowling front Tendai Chatara has been in good rhythm and so has been Kyle Jarvis. Donald Tiripano has also been impressive but their lack of a good fourth and fifth bowler remains a concern.

There is a wide gap that separates the two sides in terms of their talent and form and given that Bangladeshis are playing in their home they would start as overwhelming favourites to win the 1st ODI.

Our Prediction for Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 1st ODI

Bangladesh is favourites to win 1st ODI

A Bangladesh versus Zimbabwe ODI series until few years back would have been considered a tough and competitive one between two equally matched sides. But not anymore as Zimbabwe’s chips have declined in the last 2-3 years during which Bangladesh has turned into a competitive ODI side. In this backdrop Bangladesh would start their 3-match ODI series versus Zimbabwe at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The hosts come into this series after having made it to the finals of Asia Cup recently while the Zimbabwean side have been in the middle of the ocean having been white washed in South Africa. It would be interesting to see if Zimbabwe fights it hard on the field and not merely surrender as they did in their previous games.
