Shakib Al Hasan marked his return as captain after a brief spell of injury with a win. The 64 run win against the West Indies in the 1st Test would have given the side lot of confidence after their lacklustre series against Zimbabwe. What would have surely pleased the skipper would be the performance of his bowlers who exploited the conditions well. Apart from the batting collapse in the second innings they dominated most parts of the game to set up the win which was interestingly their first against the West Indies at home. With only one game to go in the two match BAN vs WI Test series Shakib would like to win it 2-0.
Bangladesh doesn’t seem to have an answer to Tamin Iqbal’s absence at top of the order as Soumya Sarkar struggled in both the innings. Imrul Kayes looked good in first innings. Mominul Haque was the star in the 1st Test with a brilliant hundred in the first innings. With Mohammad Mithun, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah completing the order the batting looks strong for the side. It was their bowling that caused most trouble for the West Indians. Mustafizur Rahman didn’t have much role to play on a rank turner. Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan squared up the opponents. But it was the teenager Nayeem Hasan who impressed the most entering the record books on his debut.
The West Indies team played below expectations in the 1st Test. It was expected that Kraigg Brathwaite’s side would do well given their long tour of the sub-continent. But the problems that was seen in the batting line-up in India came back to haunt the West Indians in the last game as well. They are failing to build partnerships when required and this is leading to their defeat in the games. The batsmen don’t seem to be in a mood to play to the merit of the ball. With a tuner expected in the next game as well they would find it difficult with his approach. Brathwaite would have to do something special to inspire the confidence of his side.
Brathwaite and Kieran Powell are giving poor starts to the side and this is hurting them badly in the recent times. Shai Hope isn’t in the best of form and so is the case with Sunil Ambris. While Roston Chase did well in India he is failing to convert his starts into big scores. As for Shimron Hetmyer it is his very approach to the game that is questionable in this format where he is looking to hit every ball out of the park. The batsmen have to put up a better show and give their bowlers decent chance. Shannon Gabriel’s suspension in the next game would hurt the side’s prospects as he was their best bowler. Kemar Roach failed to impress and so did Roston Chase. Jomel Warrican and Devendra Bishoo did bowl well in the last game but they have to stop the flow of runs to challenge the Bangladeshis.
Our Prediction for Bangladesh vs West Indies 2nd Test Match
Bangladesh would win the 2nd Test Match
The 1st Test Match went as per script for host Bangladesh. They prepared a rank turner and their spinners exploited the conditions well. As the two sides now play in the 2nd Test Match at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka the pitch is expected to offer lot of bargain to the spinners. It is going to be a test of character for the visitors who have had a horrible record in Asia over their last few tours. They have talented batsmen but the guys aren’t playing to the potential as yet. It would take a lot of heart from the West Indians to resist an onslaught from the Bangladeshis but if they can stick to the wicket the match could go either way.
Bangladesh would start as overwhelming favourites in the next game thanks to their army of spinners. West Indies would have to play out of their skins to win it.
