Prediction Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka AsiaAsia Cup 2018 started with Bangladesh playing Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI on 15th September at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first.

Bangladesh innings

Lasith Malinga made a comeback in ODIs with an exceptional 1st over as he picked two back to back wickets on the 5th and 6th ball. Bangladesh opener Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan were dismissed for 0 and Bangladesh were 1-2 at the end of 1st over.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun brought Bangladesh back into the game putting up 133 runs together for the 3rd wicket. Just as Bangladesh looked cruising at one point with 133 for 2, Malinga was back with a bang. In the 26th over, Malinga dismissed Mohammad Mithun caught out. Mithun scored 63 runs off 68 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Malinga gave Sri Lanka a breakthrough and opened a window for further wickets. Sri Lanka picked another wicket right in the next over by Amila Aponso. Mahmudullah was caught out by Dhananjaya de Silva for 1.

That over was followed by another over from Malinga who picked another Bangladesh wicket dismissing Mosaddek Hossain for just 1 run.

From 134 for 2 Bangladesh were now 142 for 5 and Sri Lanka looked right on top.

Though Bangladesh was losing wickets from one end, Mushfiqur Rahim kept scoring runs and was standing tall at the crease. Mehidy Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman supported him chipping in 15, 11 and 10 runs respectively.

Mushfiqur Rahim was the last man to get out scoring 144 runs off 150 balls with 11 fours and 4 sixes. Bangladesh was all out for 261 in 49.3 overs.

Lasith Malinga was the leading wicket taker for Sri Lanka with 4 wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs. Thisara Perera, Amila Aponso, and Suranga Lakmal picked one wicket each. Dhananjaya de Silva dismissed Rubel Hossain and the Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza in his 7 overs.

Sri Lanka innings

Sri Lanka lost their 1st wicket very early in the innings in the 2nd over as Kusal Mendis was out lbw on a delivery from Mustafizur. Just 6 deliveries later, Mashrafe Mortaza bowled Upul Tharanga out on 27. Mortaza picked another wicket quickly thereafter in the 5th over of the innings as he got Dhananjaya de Silver out lbw for 0.

Kusal Perera was the next man to go back to pavilion in the 10th over and Sri Lanka were 38-4. Bangladesh had the upper hand at this point in the game and looked strong and confident to win this opening ODI of the Asia Cup 2018.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews couldn’t help save the sinking ship of Sri Lankan batting and was lbw out by Rubel Hossain for 16 runs. Dilruwan Perera was the top batsman for Sri Lanka with 29 runs. Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 124 in the 36th over.

Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mehidy Hasan picked 2 wickets each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh won by 137 runs and Mushfiqur Rahim was awarded Man of the Match.

Bangladesh has now 2 points and is at number 1 in the Group B points table with +2.740 NRR. Whereas Sri Lanka has -2.740 NRR and is at the bottom of the points table.

Sri Lanka will next play Afghanistan where they will be looking to register their 1st win of Asia Cup 2018. It will be an interesting watch to see how the Sri Lankan side makes a comeback or whether Afghanistan comes out on top giving a major upset to Sri Lanka.
