ICC World Cup Match 16 Squad Comparison

Bangladesh

After a good start to the tournament where they beat South Africa Mashrafe Mortaza’s side goes into this game with back to back losses against New Zealand and England. In their last game against hosts England they were outplayed in all departments of the game. Their bowling was found wanting and the batsmen never really looked in a situation to chase down the big total. The side which had shown great promise in the lead up to the tournament finds itself in difficult condition and will have to regroup and win this one to stay in the hunt for a berth in the semi-finals.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar have been getting starts but they have been unable to convert them into big scores. The middle order is looking good with Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim being in good form. Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain have also played their part well so far and they would need to finish the innings on the right note. It is the Bangladeshi bowling attack that is causing trouble for the side. Mustafizur Rahman has proved ineffective in the tournament and so is skipper Mortaza. Mehidy Hasan and Shakib have bowled well and the team management would want the bowlers to bowl tighter lines in the next game.

Sri Lanka

Dimuth Karunaratne would have considered his side to be lucky as they shared points with Pakistan in the last game washed away by rain. While they did win the previous game against Afghanistan it was more of their opponents playing poorly than any other factor that led to their win. In the run up to the tournament the side has been in poor form and in the games played so far the side has shown nerves. Karunaratne would be aware of the fact that Bangladesh is a good side and his players would need to play very well to win the next game.

Batting for Sri Lanka has been all about openers Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne. They have done well and shall look to continue with their form. The rest of the batting has failed miserably and the side would need players like Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva to play with composure to win the next game. They bowled well against Afghanistan especially Nuwan Pradeep. Lasith Malinga will need to take more responsibility along with Suranga Lakmal with the new ball. The side would also depend on Isuru Udana to check Bangladeshi batsmen during the middle overs.

Our Prediction for Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka

Bangladesh will win the game

The start in the first leg of the tournament hasn’t been great for both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and now the two Asian sides would meet each other in the next game of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup at County Ground, Bristol. It will be a very important game for both the sides as a loss he could very well seal their fate for the rest of the tournament. Bangladesh has shown some promise in the tournament and Sri Lanka also pulled off a good win against Afghanistan. With stakes being high for both the sides we expect it to be a good encounter.

In terms of their standing both the sides would seem equally matched but Bangladesh have a better side going into this game and this would put them slightly ahead of Sri Lanka.
