Squad Comparison

It will be the start of a long home season for the hosts and skipper Aaron Finch would like his side to hit the top gear in the first game. This game would also mark the return for Steven Smith and David Warner to the T20 squad after serving their ban. In fact, Smith would be representing the national T20 side after a three and half year gap owning to his brilliant show during the Ashes. On paper, the Aussies are a much stronger side than the Sri Lankans and cricket betting sites in India consider them favorites. Finch would want them to maintain that gap in the first game.

The opening pair of Aaron Finch and David Warner would test the Sri Lankan bowlers. The duo has done well as a pair and they would look to do the same in the next game. At No. 3 the return of Steven Smith adds to the strength of batting. Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Turner will look to accelerate the score towards the end. The bowling attack is very strong with an in-form Mitchell Starc leading it. Pat Cummins and Andrew Tye have been bowling well in recent games. With Adam Zampa, Maxwell and Smith in the mix they would definitely challenge the Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Sri Lanka

Lasith Maling would be leading a young squad of players with the aim of improving their record in Australia. The young side recently won the series in Pakistan which would make them a confident lot. Though most of the players in the current squad had refused to travel to Pakistan it will still have some of the best performers from that tour. Sri Lankan cricket seems to have put its worst behind and has seen good days since the end of the World Cup. Malinga would want his side to punch above their weight and offer a stiff challenge to the Australians.

Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis have to play a key role in the game and shall need to offer the side with a good start against a strong bowling attack that Australia has. In the middle order, the likes of Oshada Fernando and Niroshan Dickwella will need to play well. Shehan Jayasuriya looked good in the last series and would look to do well here. Lasith Malinga would have to strike with the new ball and expect good support from Kasun Rajitha and Nuwan Pradeep in the game. Lakshan Sandakan will need to control the pace of the innings during the middle overs for the side to win.

Our Prediction for Australia vs Sri Lanka

Australia would win this game

A confident Australian team would take on Sri Lanka in the first of the 3-Match T20 series at home. The game would be played at the Adelaide Oval and the Australian team would be confident with the fact that they have lost only one T20 game against Sri Lanka at home and now have their full strength side going into this game. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would be looking to better its record against Australia in the latter’s den. They come here after a confident series win in Pakistan and shall look to carry on with the same form.

Australia has better balance in its batting and bowling and this would make them favorites to win this game.
