Skipper Aaron Finch finds himself in a peculiar position where few Australian captains have found themselves. He lost the recent ODI series against the South Africans and also the only T20 contest as a part of the series. Now as his team gears up to play the first of the 3-Match T20 AUS vs IN Series there would be lot of pressure on the side. The side is going through a rough patch and have lost the last four T20 matches on a trot. Given the kind of form we have seen from the Australian team over the last few months the side would be desperate to start the T20 series and the long summer against India on the right note.
The opening combination for Australia hasn’t worked in the last few games and both Aaron Finch and Chris Lynn will have to give a solid start to the side against the Indians. In the middle order too D Arcy Short, Marcus Stoinis and wicketkeeper Alex Carey need to play supporting role and let Glenn Maxwell go after the attack something he has been doing well in the recent games. The lower middle order also needs to put a price on their wickets. The bowling attack looks good and can trouble the Indians with Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye looking in great shape. They need to find support from the likes of Jason Behrendorff and D Arcy Short to take on India’s strong batting line-up.
The Indian camp on the other hand would be confident going into the first game. They demolished the West Indian and return of Virat Kohli adds to the strength of the side exponentially. India enjoys a great T20 record against the Australians and on their last tour had won the T20 series 3-0. The team has gone from strength to strength in this format over the last 12 months and won against all major sides. With the Australian team not in the best of form and a well-balanced line-up the person that Virat Kohli is he would like to start the series on a winning note.
India is a strong batting side and openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are in great form this season. Virat Kohli at No. 3 is possibly the best person in the world at the moment in terms of consistency. With KL Rahul, Rishab Pant and Dinesh Kartik to follow the team has a strong batting line-up that will challenge the Australian attack. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the bowling attack along with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. It will however be interesting to see how Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal bowl against the Australians as they may hold the key to India’s success in the game.
Our Prediction for Australia vs India 1st T20I
India will win the T20 contest
Australian cricket hasn’t seen the kind of low they are going through at the moment for decades. Even in home conditions the side isn’t starting as favourites. The absence of Steven Smith and David Warner is being felt with every passing game and this is something the side needs to overcome in the upcoming game. Indians on the other hand would approach the game with full confidence with the return of Virat Kohli to the side. They have a great batting line-up and quality bowlers making a strong T20 unit. Australians aren’t known to surrender easily and this would make the game at Gabba a well-contested encounter.
Australians are playing at home and Indians have had a good run for some time now so there is little to choose between the two sides. But given the kind of form the two sides are in Indians would start as favourites to win the first T20 game against the Australians.
