Craig Cachopa’s team had done well last season and were second on the points table but a loss in the preliminary finals saw their hopes dashed. They have been the best team in tournament’s history and would be raring to take start off their campaign with a win. With the series opener at home Cachopa would like his men to make the right start to the season. With a better record against Wellington Firebirds over the years a team that has some of the best New Zealand cricketers the team would take the field confidently in the upcoming game.
They have a strong opening pair in Glenn Phillips and Martin Guptil and the two would like to give the team a good start. The middle order is very strong for the side with the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Craig Cachopa and Jeet Raval. In the lower order Ben Horne and Sean Solia also have the ability to strike the ball hard. The bowlers had impressed last season and they have Michael Barry and Mitchell McClenaghan with the new ball. With Mark Chapman and Sean Solia backing up they have the right variety in their bowling attack to trouble their opponents.
Hamish Bennet wouldn’t have been happy with the way the team started their season suffering a huge loss against Northern Knights in their opening game. While the batsmen looked good in the game the bowlers failed to put pressure on the opponents. While they came against the individual brilliance of Knights’ skipper Dean Brownlie in the game the bowlers can’t afford to have such off days in their team is to win. Bennet would be aware of the poor record they have against the Aces and would expect every man in the team to perform and register their name on the points table.
Devon Conway looked good opening the batting while Michael Bracewell who missed out in the last game would like to make amends. The middle order performed well in the last game with Adam Hose, James Neesham, Tom Blundell and Michael Pollard playing well for their knocks. This would give the skipper some confidence going into the next game. As far as bowling goes it was a bad day for everyone barring skipper Hamish Bennett. In the next game he would expect Ollie Newton, James Neesham, Luke Woodcock and Malcolm Nofal to bowl well. They would be up against a strong batting line-up and there are no room for errors.
Our Prediction for Auckland Aces vs Wellington Firebirds
Auckland Aces will win this game
Auckland Aces would begin their campaign in Smash taking on Wellington Firebirds at their home ground Eden Park. For Aces who have a strong team it would be a great opportunity to grab points in their first game. Wellington Firebirds on the other hand come to this game after having suffered a huge loss in their opening encounter. They would be desperate for a win as a loss here can make the going tough for the side. Aces on the other hand would bank on the talent they have and wouldn’t be in a mood to disappoint their fans.
Auckland Aces have a great combination of players and they would be playing in their home ground which will make them favorites to win this game .
