Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid La Liga
Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid, La Liga, Wanda Metropolitano Stadium

An excellent chance for both Madrid sides to make a play for the top spots as the 2019/20 La Liga table is looking very open at the minute.

Our Betting Tips

There have been some interesting results early on this season in La Liga. With Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico all struggling to dominate, this game takes on even greater importance. Diego Simeone will have his players trained to take all three points.

There is some exceptional talent on both these teams – and even though Atletico are famed for their solid defensive unit, this is a local derby and passions will be high. Expect a few goals at the Wanda Metropolitano – from both Madrid teams.

Atletico will be raring to go and Los Blancos have looked a little fragile at times this season – mostly against Paris Saint-Germain – even though they did get a good win at Sevilla on Sunday. But combining both the Atletico win and BTTS makes sense with the popular sportsbooks.

Head to Head

Atletico started last season off in the best possible way by beating Real in the European Super Cup – but was then unable to take the points in either of the league games. Real Madrid have not lost to their city neighbours in the league since 2017.

  • Unsurprisingly for a Diego Simeone team, Atletico Madrid have scored the fewest goals of any side in the top half of the table. After five games played they have only managed five goals.
  • With Barcelona and Real Madrid usually dominating La Liga it is refreshing to see another name at the top of the table even if it is still early days. Athletic Bilbao and Real are the only sides not to have lost a match so far this season.
  • Atletico Madrid upset the Barca-Real battle in 2014 when they won their 10th league title. Since then they have finished third on three occasions and second the last two campaigns.
  • Real Madrid have been relegated to third place finishes in the last two seasons. The last time the Bernabeu club finished outside the top three was in 2004.

Our Prediction for Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid to win

Diego Simeone’s team likes to play their games very tight – and that has not changed since talismanic Diego Godin left for Inter in the summer. But a Madrid derby may be a little bit more expansive – and although they haven’t scored many goals so far this season, Atletico might just snatch all three points.
