Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Premier League
Aston Villa vs Liverpool, Premier League, Villa Park

Top of the table Liverpool travel to Villa Park this weekend to take on newly promoted Aston Villa.

Our Betting Tips

Liverpool’s Premier League title credentials were severely tested on the weekend as they had to come from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds also had to come behind in their previous match against Manchester United to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Aston Villa on the other hand, lost 3-0 away to Manchester City on Saturday, which ended a run of three games without a loss for the Lions.

LIVERPOOL TO WIN BY A TWO GOAL MARGIN

Both these sides have midweek League Cup fixtures coming up on Wednesday, with Villa hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool welcoming Arsenal to Anfield. Both teams could use their ties as a chance to rotate in some of the squad players with an eye on their weekend fixture.

MATCH TO END WITH OVER 3.5 GOALS

Liverpool have only kept two clean sheets in the Premier League this season, a 1-0 victory away to Sheffield United and a 3-0 win at Burnley. Meanwhile, Villa have failed to score in just three of their 10 leagues games to date and have the joint sixth best attacking record in the division with 15 goals scored so far.

LIVERPOOL TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

With Liverpool looking to lift their first league title since 1990 and stay ahead of Man City at the top of the table, nothing other than a win here against a side struggling down towards the foot of the table will be accepted.

GAME TO END 1-3

Stats

  • Aston Villa have only lost once at home in the Premier League this season, which was a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in August. The Villans have won twice and drawn twice in their last four matches at Villa Park.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League away games, going back to a 2-1 loss to Manchester City in January, winning nine and drawing four of those matches.
  • Aston Villa have lost each of their last five home games against Liverpool in the Premier League, going back to a 1-0 victory over the Reds in 2011. However, they did record a 2-1 win at home over the Reds in the FA Cup in 2015.
  • Liverpool are the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League this season and are on a run of 27 games without suffering a defeat since that defeat to Man City. Prior to that loss at the Etihad the Reds had been on a run of 21 games without a loss, making it just one defeat in their last 48 Premier League ties.

Our Prediction for Aston Villa vs Liverpool

The match to end in a Liverpool win.

Aston Villa kept Man City scoreless in the first half of their game on Saturday afternoon before capitulating in the second as the Citizens ran out 3-0 winners in the end. Coach Dean Smith will be sweating on the news of the fitness of his captain Jack Grealish who picked up a knock on the weekend.

Liverpool had to come from behind to beat Spurs on the weekend and will want to make sure that this game goes a lot smoother than Sunday’s.  Coach Jurgen Klopp will have to do without the services of Nathaniel Clyne who is a long-term injury absentee, and Xherdan Shaqiri who is close to making a return. Meanwhile Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Joel Matip have all picked up knocks and face late fitness tests ahead of this game.
