ICC World Cup Match 42 Squad Comparison

Afghanistan

Gulbadin Naib’s team has failed to live up to the truckloads of expectations they came with to this tournament. If the first five games were about being overwhelmed by the opponents the last three have been the perfect examples of minnows chickening out at the last moment. The last loss to Pakistan was a case of nerves as the team gave away a win to their neighbors. Mindless bowling and fielding in the final overs cost them the game in the end. After eight consecutive losses the side would want to register a win against the West Indies and offer something for their fans to cheer about.

Gulbadin Naib and Rahmat Shah have done well at the top for the side and they will need to provide a good start to the side. It is in the middle order that the likes of Hazratullah Zazai, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi will need to hold the side together. They have thrown away their wickets after getting set. Samiullah Shinwari, Najibullah Zardnan and Rashid Khan have to do well towards the end. In the bowling department it has been a Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman show so far. Rashid Khans’s poor form has cost the side and along with Gulbadin Naib he has to deliver the goods for the side to win this game.

West Indies

It was so near yet so far once again for Jason Holder’s side against Sri Lanka in the last game. After conceding a big score the side nearly pulled off a stunning victory only to fall short by 23 runs. The defeat summarizes their campaign in the tournament where they have impressed in most games but failed to seal it through. The big stars Gayle and Hope have let down the side while we have seen some inspiring performances from the youngsters. With nothing to lose Holder would want his side to go all out in the next game and win it convincingly to bring an end to another disastrous campaign for the side at the World Cups.

Chris Gayle would want to make the last World Cup game of his life count and be looking to provide a good start in company of Sunil Ambris. Shai Hope too has had a muted tournament and look to do well in the next game. Shimron Hetmyer, Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Holder have done well with the bat in the tournament and provide strength to the middle order. Carlos Brathwaite and Fabian Allen have done well towards the end and would be looking to do the same in the next game. Their bowlers have done well in the tournament especially Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas and Jason Holder and they would be looking to trouble the Afghanistan side in the next game. Brathwaite and Fabian Allen need to bowl tight spells in the middle overs for the side to win.

Our Prediction for Afghanistan vs West Indies

West Indies shall win this game

As Afghanistan and West Indies play one another in what would be their last game of the World Cup at Headingley, Leeds it will only be about bragging rights. Both the sides have had a dismal tournament with West Indies failing to win a game after their victory against Pakistan in the tournament opener. The story has been even worse for the spirited Afghanistan side as they have lost all their games so far in the tournament. With the result of this game being inconsequential as far as the tournament is concerned both the sides would desperately want to win this one and offer their fans something to cheer about.
West Indies have a better batting line-up compared to Afghanistan and this will make them favourites to win the game.
