Here are a few stats to consider while betting on other markets and in-play betting –
Afghanistan Batting vs Sri Lanka Bowling
Afghanistan played their last ODI against Ireland on August 31, 2018.
Ihsanullah Janat was the top batsman for Afghanistan scoring 57 not out with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Hashmatullah Shahidi was the other batsman to remain not out in that innings with 34 runs.
It is obvious that Sri Lankan bowling attack is more disciplined and lethal than that of Ireland and Afghanistan batsmen will find it difficult to get to a good start against Lasith Malinga’s bowling.
Mohammad Shahzad of Afghanistan scored just 1 run in his last ODI appearance. He was caught out at deep third man on a poorly executed cut short on the 1st ball of the 2nd over.
Previous to that match, Shahzad lost his wicket on the second ball of the 1st over, as he was out lbw. It was a full delivery pitched outside off which moved in and hit him on to the pads.
Another batsman who lost his wicket to a short of length delivery outside off trying for an upper cut, was Mohammad Nabi.
Slinga Malinga picked 4 wickets in the opening game of Asia Cup 2018, 2 of which he picked pitching the ball at good length outside off, and one wicket from a short length delivery pitching outside off.
In the same match, Sri Lankan bowlers dismissed 2 right handed Bangladesh batsmen bowling it full and outside off, and dismissed 3 batsmen bowling it at short length just outside off.
The Sri Lankan bowlers have an upper hand in this battle of batsmen and bowlers over the Afghanistan batsmen who recently have struggled against full and short of length deliveries against Ireland.
Sri Lanka Batting
Sri Lanka hasn’t put a great batting performance in this tournament yet. And if you look at the way Sri Lanka’s top batsmen got out, there’s a similarity between their dismissals in the match against Bangladesh and the previous matches against South Africa.
Thisara Perera lost his wicket in the last ODI against South Africa on a short-pitched ball outside off. Bangladesh almost repeated it, by pitching the ball up by just 2 meters in length and keeping the line almost same.
Kusal Mendis also had a similar delivery bowled to him in the Asia Cup opener that got him dismissed as the one against South Africa in the last ODI of the series.
Against South Africa, Kusal Mendis was dismissed on a good length delivery just outside the off, and in the match against Bangladesh, the length was very much the same, the line had shifted by just a few inches down to the middle and leg stump.
The most surprising similarity in the dismissal of a Sri Lankan batsman was that of Upul Tharanga. The line and length of the delivery which got him out against South Africa in the 5th ODI is very similar to the delivery that dismissed him against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2018 1st ODI.
The line outside off, pitching at a short length, even the deliveries that he hit to a boundary had the same line and length from the previous match.
This batting and bowling analysis will be crucial when placing In-Play bettings and Match Coupons on markets concerning individual player performances.
Though a solid comeback from Sri Lankan side is expected in the upcoming match, Afghanistan bowlers are not easy to rule out as a competition.
It will be a great contest to watch when Afghanistan bowlers are up against the Sri Lankan batting side.
