It ended in heartache for Irish fans in Dublin against Denmark in November. Despite the absence of “The Boys in Green” at this year’s World Cup, there is plenty of mouth-watering action to look forward to. Germany, the defending champions, is considered by most betting sites as the favourites to lift the trophy. With the likes of Brazil, France, Spain and Argentina all looking strong, nothing is a certainty.

With our World Cup Group Schedule giving you all you need to know about 2018’s soccer spectacular, betting on the biggest prize in football is bound to much easier. Sports betting will be made much easier with the times, dates, group information and more detailed below.

How the Group Stage Works

  • There are eight groups, each containing four teams. Every team plays each other once, meaning there are three matches in total for every nation.
  • Groups are assigned letters, rather than numbers, from A to H.
  • 3 points is awarded for a win, with 1 awarded to both teams that draw. The top two teams from every group on the conclusion of all games progress to the second round.
  • In the event of a points-tie between teams in the group stage, factors such as goal difference will determine a tie-breaker.

How the Knockout Stages Work

  • Once the top two teams in each group have been determined, they will be placed against another team for a one-off, knockout game.
  • The winner of Group A will play the runner-up of Group B with the runner-up of Group A playing the winner of Group B. The winner of Group C plays the runner-up of Group D and so on.
  • In any knockout game drawn, including the final, there will be 30 minutes 9 two 15 minute halves) of extra time played to determine a winner. If the game is still a tie following extra time, a penalty shootout will be played.
  • The winner of the final match of World Cup 2018 will be crowned world champions.

World Cup 2018 Interesting Facts
