No world cup is complete without an official song and for Russia 2018 that son is Colors by Jason Derulo. The song has been released as the built up to this summer’s biggest football tournament kicks off.

We can expect to see advertising campaigns and regular promotions that will keep fans engaged in the run up to the tournament and the official World Cup song is something that fans and people around the world will come to recognise.

There are generally a number of official songs, but Jason Derulo’s “Colors” is the official Coca-Cola anthem for Russia 2018. The song was launched on the 9th of March. It’s an upbeat song that deals with multiculturalism and promotes a positive message of embrace diversity whilst promoting unity. Some of the lyrics include, “We’re created equal / One race and that’s human / Can’t wait ‘til they all see, all see dance.”

Past Official World Cup Songs

Throughout the years we’ve seen some of the biggest pop artists in the world getting involved in the World Cup song. Shakira is one singer who has been heavily involved in the past three World Cups and we’ve also had the likes of Pitbull, Carlos Santana, Anastacia, and of course who will ever forget Ireland’s own squad from Italia ’90 and the release of Put ‘Em Under Pressure. Anyone who’s Irish knows this tune and the chants of Ole Ole Ole Ole, can be heard at all their matches. Below is a list of World Cup songs and artists from previous years.

  • World Cup 2014, Brazil: Carlos Santana – Dar um Jeito (We Will Find a Way)
  • World Cup 2010, South Africa: Shakira – Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)
  • World Cup 2006, Germany: Il Divo (ft. Toni Braxton) – The Time of our Lives
  • World Cup 2002, Japan & Korea: Anastacia – Boom
  • World Cup 1998, France: Ricky Martin – La Copa de la Vida (The Cup of Life)
