Will Mourinho Look to Park the Bus Again at Chelsea?
Bonfire Night plays host to some thrilling top of the table clashes, with Manchester United travelling to London to take on champions Chelsea in the 4.30pm kick-off. A win for Chelsea would put them within touching distance of United, and three points for the Red Devils would keep them in the title race. Chances are, though, this battle of the titans could end in a stalemate.
After the recent drab 0-0 draw against Liverpool, many people are expecting Jose Mourinho to park the bus again when he returns to Stamford Bridge. The former Chelsea manager seemed elated when he took a point from Jürgen Klopp’s side, but with title rivals Manchester City flying high at the top of the table, can the United manager really afford to slip further behind?
Chelsea are slight favourites going into the game, but have had mixed performances over recent weeks and will be bruised by the midweek 3-0 loss against Roma in the Champions League. United have the best defence in the league with only four goals conceded after ten games, and if Mourinho sets up his team defensively the Blues may struggle to break them down.
The way this match plays out could depend on the City v Arsenal result earlier in the day. If United’s local rivals win, they will open up an eight-point gap at the top of the division. In this scenario, Mourinho may be forced to go for the three points, which could lead to a much more open game. Romelu Lukaku does like to score against his former club, but he will need service from the midfield. At Anfield, he barely had a touch of the ball.
It may be wise to hold off on staking on this game until the other matches have played out, but as it stands, the smart money is on a low-scoring draw here.
