Score: 1-4.

Chelsea travel to Southampton this Sunday to face a struggling Saints side that have lost their last two games on the bounce.

Our Betting Tips

Southampton are winless in their last two league games losing 2-1 away to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, meanwhile Chelsea bounced back from their loss to Liverpool by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 on Saturday. The Blues have scored 13 times in their last five league games.

Southampton have found goals hard to come by so far this season, with Danny Ings their top goal scorer with just two to his name. Chelsea on the other hand have scored double the amount of goals as the Saints with 14 in their account. Tammy Abraham has scored seven times the same amount as the whole Southampton team combined.

Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Brighton last weekend was their first clean sheet of the season and they will be hoping to make it two in a row in this game.

The Blues have scored 10 times in their last four trips to St. Mary’s winning all four while conceding three times.

Head to Head

These sides last met at St Mary’s in the Premier League in October of last year and the match ended as a 3-0 win for the Blues.  Chelsea have the better of the historical head to head winning 36 of the last 74 matches played in all competitions between the teams. The Saints have 19 of those ties while there have also been 19 draws during that period.

  • Southampton are winless in their last five home games in the Premier League, losing twice and drawing the other three.
  • Chelsea have won their last two games on the road in the Premier League against Wolves and Norwich respectively, however, they did go winless in their previous four.
  • The Saints are winless at home in the league against Chelsea in their last six games which is a run of five losses and a draw since a 2-1 win in 2013.
  • Chelsea only won nine of their 19 away games in last season’s Premier League, losing seven and drawing three.

Our Prediction for Southampton vs Chelsea

The match to end with a Chelsea win

Southampton will hope to turn around their two-game losing run; however, they face a side that they have a poor home record against. Moussa Djenepo is ruled out, while Alex McCarthy and Cedric Soares are slight doubts.

Chelsea need to keep picking up three points if they hope to cement their place in the top four, Coach Frank Lampard will have to do without Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Emerson, and Antonio Rudiger who are all ruled out trough injury. Meanwhile, Oliver Giroud, Kurt Zouma, and N’Golo Kante are all struggling with knocks and face late fitness tests ahead of this one.
