Sheffield United vs Arsenal, Premier League, Bramall Lane

The match is over.
Score: 1-0.

Newly promoted Sheffield United welcome third placed Arsenal to Bramall Lane for match day nine of this season’s Premier League.

Our Betting Tips

Sheffield United have found goals difficult to come by in the Premier League and have the third worst goalscoring record in the division, hitting the back of the net just seven times in eight matches.  None of their players have scored more than one goal, while Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has matched the Blades’ tally of seven on his own.

Aubameyang is the Gunner’s main goal threat, scoring 50 times in all competitions already since his arrival at the club in January 2018. With record signing Nicolas Pepe scoring a belter for Ivory Coast during the international break Coach Unai Emery will be hoping that he can bounce back after his early season struggles and give the London outfit another goal scoring threat.

The Blades have a poor record against Arsenal in recent and that hoodoo should give the Gunners the confidence to take the game to their hosts. The Gunners are unbeaten in their last eight games throughout all competitions and have only lost once this season so far.

Arsenal will need to pick up the three points here as Leicester City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace are all breathing down their necks to take that third-place spot in the table. Meanwhile the Blades will hope they can frustrate Arsenal and get something out of the game after their goalless draw away to Watford last time out.

Head to Head

The last game played at Bramall Lane between these sides finished 0-3 to the Gunners in the FA Cup in 2007. The Blades won the last game played in the Premier League at Bramall Lane in December 2006 by a 1-0 score line. Arsenal have the better of the historical head to head winning 41 of the last 98 matches played in all competitions, the Blades have won 34 while there have been 23 draws.

  • Sheffield United have only won one of their five home games in the Premier League so far this season, which was 1-0 defeat of Crystal Palace in August.
  • Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three away games in the Premier League, losing 3-1 to Liverpool and drawing 2-2 with Watford and 1-1 with Manchester United
  • Sheffield United have only lost six of their last 14 home games in the Premier League. The Blades have only won twice in their last 19 games both home and away against the Gunners going back to a 5-0 at home back in 1973.
  • Arsenal have only won three of their last 10 away games in the Premier League, against Watford, Burnley, and Newcastle.

Our Prediction for Sheffield United vs Arsenal

The match to end with an Arsenal win.

Sheffield United are sitting in 13th place in the table and gave Liverpool a tough time in their last home game before the international break.  Irish international David McGoldrick missed out on the Rep of Ireland’s two qualifiers through injury and faces a late fitness test ahead of this game. While, Oliver McBurnie is also a slight doubt to be fit in time for the weekend.

Arsenal are currently sitting in third place and will be hoping to pick up the three points here to keep pace with the top-two. French striker Alexandre Lacazette is still struggling with his ankle injury and is joined on the treatment table by Reiss Nelson.
