Previewing the 2018 Carabao Cup Final
It’s been a disappointing season so far for Arsenal, with the Gunners underperforming on a number of occasions and looking highly likely to miss out on the Champions League spots for a second successive year. The Gunners have the opportunity to salvage some pride on February 25 when they make the short trip to Wembley to face runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger’s side face a Europa League tie with Swedish side Ostersunds just three days earlier but Wenger has already outlined his intention to rest a number of senior players for that game including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mezut Ozil. The Gunners could be boosted by the return of Aaron Ramsey, who has trained with the squad this week following an injury lay-off.
Ladbrokes have priced Arsenal at 9/2 to win in 90 minutes, a feat they haven’t achieved against this opposition in over three years. Arsene Wenger’s side are particularly useful in cup competitions however and the Frenchman will be determined to guide his side to victory at Wembley. Last season’s FA Cup winners needed extra time to squeeze past this opposition en route to that success in April 2017 and it could be dangerous to completely discount them.
Manchester City Determined to Avoid Successive Cup Slip-ups
Manchester City failed to justify their price of 1/7 against League One outfit Wigan on February 19 as a second-half Will Grigg strike knocked them out of the competition. Pep Guardiola’s side had Fabian Delph dismissed for a flying tackle during the first half and never quite recovered. The former England international will miss this clash as a result.
Wigan battled throughout and showed plenty of determination against Manchester City, something Arsenal have been reportedly lacking in recent weeks. The Premier League leaders are 4/7 favourites for this showpiece event and have already beaten the Gunners once this campaign. Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring when the pair met at the Etihad in November and he is 9/1 with Paddy Power to repeat the trick here.
