It’s that time of the year again. It’s early February, and you’ve placed your wings order two weeks in advance. You’ve complied every CBS telecast of the football season to study the colors of Jim Nantz’s tie collection, and you’ve got Whitney Houston’s rendition of the National Anthem on repeat. It could only mean one thing, it’s prop bet season. National Anthem Length: Verdict: OVER – A quick search of Gladys Knight on YouTube will retrieve you a 1991 rendering of the Anthem performed by Knight herself. In this performance Gladys wraps up the final “brave” note with a final run time of 1 minute and 57 seconds. This, along with her older age and the bright lights of the Super Bowl all lean towards a prolonged performance this Sunday. Will the Opening Kickoff be a Touchback? Verdict: YES – These two kickoff-specialists have had just 36% of their combined kickoffs returned this season. The NFL’s constant attempt to try to reinvent the kickoff in hopes to make it safer has practically eliminated the play as a whole. Team to Score First in the Game: Verdict: Rams – In a mindboggling stat line, the Patriots have scored a grand total of just three first quarter points in their eight Super Bowl appearances during the Belichick/Brady era. Quarter of Tony Romo’s 1st Correct Play Prediction: Verdict: 1st quarter –A trending topic amongst fans and social media, Romo has left many in awe with his ability to dissect formations and schematics. Romo has began to play along with his new found “prediction” fame, lending his hand at predicting where baseball player Bryce Harper will land in free agency, along with the final score of the Super Bowl. Romo will keep the trend going within in the first 15 minutes on game day. Tom Brady Passing Yards: Verdict: OVER – Brady has eclipsed 340+ yards passing in both playoff games this season. He has also averaged a whopping 433 passing yards in his last three Super Bowl appearances. Jared Goff Interceptions: Verdict: OVER – Goff has tossed seven interceptions over his last seven games. Expect the Pats under appreciated secondary to get their hands on one of Goff’s passes. Sony Michel Rushing Yards: Verdict: OVER – Michel has rushed for an average of 121 ypg in the playoffs, eclipsing 112 yards in each game. James White Pass Receptions: Verdict: OVER – White is two games removed from registering 15 receptions in the divisional rounds. White also owns the NFL record for most receptions in a Super Bowl with 14 back in 2016. Todd Gurley Rushing Yards: Verdict: OVER – While the football world may not believe in Gurley at this moment, Sean McVay does. McVay knows Gurley has to be a huge part of the Rams game plan if they have any hope of leaving Atlanta victorious. Julian Edelman Receiving Yards: Verdict: UNDER – Edelman’s name has crept up in Hall of Fame talks this week, thanks to his constant production in playoff games and Super Bowls. Edelman will undoubtedly play a major role in the football game. Yet with New England’s will to stick to their run game, as well as having Gronk and James White at their disposal in the passing game, Edelman will likely hit the UNDER. Super Bowl LIII MVP: Verdict: Tom Brady – Don’t over think it. Quarterbacks who win the Super Bowl win Super Bowl MVPs. Brady is a quarterback, Brady wins Super Bowls, and therefore will win the MVP. Oh and he happens to be greatest at his position in the history of the NFL.
