Manchester United vs Liverpool: Premier League Preview
Manchester United moved above Liverpool in the Premier League courtesy of a last-gasp 3-2 success over Crystal Palace and they will be hoping to extend that two point advantage by securing three points against the Reds at Old Trafford.
Liverpool made some changes in midweek against Porto in the Champions League, with Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah both starting on the bench, but the pair are expected to be reinstated here. It proved to be an easy assignment for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who were already 5-0 up from the first leg and they could afford to take their foot off the pedal, knowing their place in the quarter-finals was almost guaranteed.
The Reds have conceded just one goal in their last three Premier League games and many punters will be keen to back them at 17/10 with Paddy Power. The hosts have understandably been chalked up as the favourites for this clash at 8/5 and the draw is also expected to be popular at 9/4. The pair drew 0-0 at Anfield on October 14th, with Romelu Lukaku wasting a glorious opportunity to take all three points.
Jose Mourinho has previously questioned the atmosphere inside Old Trafford, branding it “a quiet stadium” during their routine 2-0 victory over Huddersfield. The home fans should provide plenty of encouragement throughout this crucial 90 minutes.
Liverpool’s Deadly Front Three
Manchester United’s defence held firm during the previous meeting between these sides but they didn’t look quite as robust when conceding twice to Crystal Palace on March 6th. Liverpool have Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in their side and all three are in terrific form.
Salah has already found the net 24 times this season and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. The winger is an intriguing 17/2 with Boylesports to find the net twice during this game. His partner-in-crime, Sadio Mane is an attractive looking 5/2 to score anytime in this fixture.
